Ray J has taken aim at Tyrese Gibson for calling out Eddie Murphy, who made a joke referencing the infamous Will Smith Oscars slap at this year’s Golden Globes.

On Thursday (January 12), the “One Wish” singer issued a response in the comment section of TheJasmineBrand’s repost of Tyrese defending Smith. Tyrese had posted a picture of himself and Will embracing and called for everyone to move on from the incident.

Ray J caught wind of the Baby Boy actor’s comments and took time out of his day to stand up for Eddie Murphy and Will Smith — whom he’s called his mentors — from Tyrese’s “antics.”

“Tyrese better mind his own biz,” wrote Ray J. “You not on Eddie level!!! To think you can tell Axel Foley or Hakeem the Prince of Zamunda to ‘move on already’?? Hes #1 in his acting campaign still to this day! REAL LEGEND!

He continued: “You BETTER show some respect Tyrese! Before Will slap you back into your reality! – yeah i said it! You know how i feel about you and your antics! Dont play with my mentors!! It wont end well!!”

Ray J’s comments come after Tyrese gave his two cents on Eddie Murphy, referencing the slapping incident between Will Smith and Chris Rock in 2022. The Beverly Hills Cop actor was the recipient of the Cecil B. DeMille Award at the 2023 Golden Globes, and in his acceptance speech, Murphy gave advice for “new, up-and-coming dreamers and artists that are in the room.”

“It’s very simple, just do these three things: pay your taxes, mind your business and keep Will Smith’s wife’s name out your fucking mouth,” Murphy said.

Tyrese wasn’t too fond of the joke and proceeded to double down on his support of Will Smith with an Instagram post celebrating their friendship.

“I’m still team WILL SMITH there’s nobody on this earth that will ever influence me to ever have a change of heart towards the BIGGEST INFLUENCE in my life,” he wrote on Instagram alongside a few red carpet photos with Smith.

He went on to praise Smith’s latest movie, Emancipation, writing: “I’m just saying man…. Move on already I just watched EMANCIPATION for the 3rd time I just can’t believe how masterful this overall movie is.”

Speaking of moving on, Ray J wants people to forget about his guest appearance during Mario and Omarion’s 2022 Verzuz battle that created several viral moments. Ray J took to Instagram earlier this month to share a clip of his performance where he’s particularly in a groove and paired it with other people recreating the moment.

In his caption, Ray J jokingly asked the internet to leave it alone for the new year. “Can we put this behind us. Lol leave it in 2022??? #happynewyear 2023,” he wrote.
