Iconic New York emcee Rakim has been performing his classic album recorded with former partner Eric B., Paid In Full extensively in recent years. Ra has performed the 1986 4th & Broadway release alone as well as with The Roots since 2010, and made a stop with Big Daddy Kane, Slick Rick and Doug E. Fresh earlier this month in Detroit, Michigan.
There, Rakim spoke with The Detroit Free Press. The newspaper reports that presently Rakim is in the studio with Pharrell of The Neptunes/N*E*R*D, and plans to release a single before the end of the year.
Rakim last released The Seventh Seal in 2009.

Ra’s last album was legit from song concepts, story telling andb beat selection. I feel Harry Fraud beats could do Rakim justice on the production tip mor so than the Neptunes.

I’m usually critical of old rappers trying to become relevant again, but I don’t think this is a bad thing. Pharell wouldn’t be my first choice of producers to work with, but still better than nothing at this point in Rakim’s career.

I’d been waitin for ages to listen a new Rakim album. Then he released Seventh sealed but it’s an absolutely dissapointing album. I dont like pharell so much but a beast like Rakim need a good prod. like him. I’m happy to see these guys working together.
