R. Kelly Says He Doesn’t ‘Deserve’ Prison On Surprise Remix Of Chris Brown’s ‘Residuals’

    R. Kelly has participated in the viral “Residuals” challenge, despite being behind bars.

Started last month by fellow R&B singer Tank, the challenge consists of people performing their own verse to Chris Brown‘s song of the same name, with the likes of Mario, Jacob Latimore and Boyz II Men’s Shawn Stockman all getting involved.

A surprising late entrant for the challenge is convicted child sex offender R. Kelly, who put his own spin on Breezy’s 2023 hit over a prison phone call.

The audio, which was posted online by Kelly’s producer and collaborator Rodney East, finds the disgraced singer hitting out his incarceration as well as those in charge of his finances.

“They’re still selling my music, making all this money / Don’t even send shit to my folks for commissary / Though I’m in this place, I know I don’t deserve this / There’s questions on my mind / There’s questions on my mind,” he sings.

Kellz adds: “Tell me who, who’s getting all my checks? / Where is my money at? / Tell me who, who’s getting paid for my grind? / All of that’s supposed to be mine.

“Who gave you 34 years? / Who made you billions of dollars? / Who put the R in R&B? / I swear that it’s killing me in my cell, making me holler, dammit.”

In his Instagram post, East confirmed that it was indeed R. Kelly’s voice, writing: “Big Bro Decided 2 Pull up On The Challenge. No AI, The Real Deal… IYKYK. Voice Is Definitely Missed Out Here.”

His remix was welcomed by the likes of SWV’s LeLee Lyons, Jozzy, L.T. Hutton and Tyrese, with the latter commenting: “How many times can I hit this KING BUTTON [crown emojis] [goat emojis] [fire emojis].”

    Listen to it below.

In a recent interview from behind bars, R. Kelly claimed to have written 25 albums’ worth of music while incarcerated.

Phoming into the podcast Inmate Tea with A&P, the “Ignition” hitmaker revealed he’s still sharpening his songwriting and singing talents while serving his decades-long prison sentences for sex crimes.

“I’m always singing, I’m always writing,” he said. “I’ve written like 25 albums since I’ve been in here.”

Kelly also claimed that his legal fight isn’t over, despite having multiple appeals rejected by the courts, claiming that pieces of evidence were inadequate and that the law was applied inaccurately.

“I’m working on getting out,” he added. “I’m using patience as a tactic.”

Kelly’s attorney Jean Bonjean concurred, telling TMZ: “Our appeals process has not come to an end. We will continue to fight for justice and for his freedom.”

According to Bureau of Prisons records, R. Kelly is set to be released from prison on December 21, 2045, by which point he will be 78 years old.

      1. Y’all have no respect for talent. He did nothing wrong all you criers learn the law he didn’t break it even religiously he didn’t do anything wrong. Look up legal age in Iran. Clive is the real evil.

    1. He’s guilty just not the top guy just saying. It’s not the blacks, it’s not the whites it’s the jooz

    2. robert don’t talk to me about money and how you think you have been hard done by because of it so you got a raw deal with sex crimes i believe that shit and the judge threw the fucking book at you over it money from your music and your sexual deviations are two different things

    3. All this blatant hateful BOT energy yall got for R.Kelly sure does change when the names Trump, whose acts are far far worse. So for those of you reading this and living in the forth dimension of reality who thinks the orange demon is spotless, should see R.Kelly no differently. Because if you can separate one from his lies and deceit, you should be able to separate the other from his acts and his art. No one is spotless. Just because everybody don’t know all your dirt doesn’t means you ain’t walking around here dirty. I’m not defending Trump. I’m not defending R.Kelly. But this society loves to loudly throw stones (opinions) from a glass house.

      1. @knight sorry, but proof is what matters for anything, and yeah, as someone who was abused as a kid, I hate people like R Kelly. What he did to Aaylieah was not acceptable. If they prove Trump, or anyone for that matter has done the same thing with 14 year Olds, old hate him too. Accusations don’t equate to proof ot fact… pretty much every presidnet has been acused of heinous acts. Proof is what matters.
