Since the cancellation of her daytime talk show and the well received autobiography ‘Ladies First: Revelations of a Strong Woman, Queen Latifah has been continuously working on many different projects.
“I’ve always been a person to cut my own mold”, Queen Latifah once said in an interview. “I don’t follow trends. I try to be current but I don’t follow what everyone else is doing”. While other rappers are trying to stay alive with their music, Queen Latifah has created a buzz in the entertainment industry. Having dropped her last album in June of 1998 titled, “Order in the Court”, Latifah is set to begin work on her fifth album later this year. Latifah which means ‘delicate and sensitive’ in Arabic, has starred in television shows and movies such as ‘The Bone Collector’ with Denzel Washington,’ Living Single’, ‘Set It Off’, ‘Living Out Loud’ and ‘Mama Flora’s Family’, Queen Latifah is extending her acting resume with two new feature films.
‘Brown Sugar’, which is slated for release later this year, shows Queen Latifah alongside Mos Def, in a love story between a magazine editor (Sanaa Lathan) and an A&R executive at a record label (Taye Diggs). Latifah will also be producing and starring in a film with Steve Martin titled ‘In The Houze’. In the film Queen plays an escaped convict who meets up with her pen pal (Steve Martin) and turns his world upside down. The movie will hit theatres sometime next year.
