Q-Tip has always been an advocate for good music, and it appears he’s a big fan of Scarface‘s recent Tiny Desk performance — as are many others.
The legendary Tribe Called Quest frontman took to Twitter/X on Tuesday (December 19) to praise Face, sharing a link to the concert and adding: “@BrotherMob we needed this.”

The internet has been raving about Scarface’s appearance on the popular concert series since it dropped on Monday (December 18), with series producer DJ Cuzzin B even dubbing it one of the best from any rapper.
For the much-anticipated performance, the Geto Boys legend brought on board his longtime producer and collaborator Mike Dean, as well as a live band and backing singers. With Dean injecting his signature synths into several songs, Facemob performed stunning renditions of hits such as “On My Block,” “Mary Jane,” “I Seen a Man Die” and “Mind Playing Tricks on Me.”

Q-Tip himself has yet to make an appearance on the show, though his Tribe groupmate Ali Shaheed Muhammad previously appeared in 2018 as part of The Midnight Hour.

Since launching the series in 2008, NPR has hosted hundreds of Tiny Desk Concerts which see performers put on intimate mini-concerts from inside the organization’s offices.
Some of the most notable Hip Hop appearances on the show have come from Mac Miller, Anderson .Paak and Tyler, The Creator.
Aside from being a pioneering MC and member of the Geto Boys, Scarface possesses a versatile musical ability that includes being able to play the guitar.

Speaking about his love of the instrument in an interview with Fender, he said: “I grew up in a band. My uncles were in a band, my cousin was in a band.
“My uncles would just jam and then go take smoke breaks, and I would be that fly on the wall watching them all day. When they’d leave, I’d pick up the guitar and just try to do what they did on their Strats or P Basses.”
Scarface also revealed that he was heavily influenced by ’70s hard rock as well as funk and psychedelica. “My mom would drop me off at my grandmother’s house when she went to work,” he said. “I spent a lot of time there, and over there they played rock and roll. We listened to a lot of Molly Hatchet, Rush, Sabbath, Frank Zappa, Jimi Hendrix, KISS. Just all those guitar heroes.
“And when people in the house got done playing guitars, they just laid them on the bed, so I would play them myself. I went from that to my mom’s house, where they played Parliament and Prince and the Isley Brothers. You mix everything up, and I’m finding myself brainwashed by Pink Floyd and Chaka Kahn. Cheap Trick and the Commodores at the same time.”

Last year, Scarface embarked on a 32-date farewell tour to commemorate his more than three decades in Hip Hop. It also came after years of health issues including a kidney transplant.
