Popcaan comes to Drake’s defense after Mr. Vegas called out the Champagne Papi for not crediting Dancehall artists enough.
“OVO Unruly, we don’t need your help,” Popcaan says in an Instagram clip addressing Mr. Vegas’ recent shots at Drizzy.
On Monday (May 16), Vegas called into Hot97’s Ebro In The Morning to clarify what he meant when he called Drake “fake” during a Facebook Live broadcast.
“Why did Drake link Beenie Man to on sing back that record if that’s the one he wanted? Or why let Beenie Man do something new?” Mr. Vegas asked. “So then I’m listening to the record further and at the end of the record when the record done, you can hear the record fin, Beenie Man doing the outro. So I’m like, Drake is rampaning my artists. You using my artists as intro men.”

The song in question is “Controlla” which includes a Beenie Man sample from his song “Tear Off Mi Garment.” A leaked version of the song also included Popcaan, which didn’t make the final cut of VIEWS. Popcaan’s “Luh Yuh Bad” is also sampled on “Too Good” featuring Rihanna.
Popcaan and Beenie Man are both however, credited writers on “Too Good” and “Controlla” respectively.
Vegas’ main issue was that Popcaan nor Beenie Man were listed as a featured artist on the respective tracks that they were sampled on.
Popcaan has no issue with this as he solidifies his and Drake‘s OVO Unruly alliance, making it clear which side of the fence he’s on.

“Don’t try to violate my brother now,” Poppy says. “You don’t know anything about Unruly or OVO. You don’t need to defend Popcaan.”
The irony of the situation is Popcaan made his sharp statements wearing a Nike soccer jersey that read “Pay Homage” across the chest.
Video of Popcaan telling Mr. Vegas he doesn’t need his help is below.
