In a recent interview with HipHopChronicleUK.com (watch video below) Pharoahe Monch and Jean Grae spoke about why their respective albums have yet to see the light of day.
“We decided collectively — me and my manager — to push this record back, because it simply wasn’t ready,” explained Monch of his upcoming album, W.A.R. “we were a little bit too ambitious. We were still waiting for vocals from artists, and they didn’t come in. We are very specific about how we wanted it arranged…it wasn’t ready.”
Monch explained that the follow-up to 2007’s Desire was “dark” and “scary.”
“A lot of our liberties are being taken away,” said Monch, “We’re losing touch with our sensibility and we’re becoming desensitized. I worry about the generations to come.”
Jean Grae also spoke about her album. “I threw it out,” joked the rapper. “I think the same thing, talking about being really ambitious with the project. It can be looked at as, ‘please stop adding instruments’…but I don’t want it to be the thing where I go back and listen to it and I’m like, ‘if I had just done this one thing…'”
Grae add that the album, titled Cake or Death, is very different from her previous projects.

I got my eye on these albums. Listen to Pharoahe talkin some real shit about our liberties and desensitization. You aint gonna hear kanye(hiphopdx’s bitch) talkin that. Nah he’d rather just run his mouth about pointless shit.
Cannot wait for this album. Desire could’ve been so much better. Looking forward to some great music from u Pharoahe!
Is she still on blacksmith records?
maybe they should do what Lupe did….
