O’Shea Jackson Jr. Details Humanity Of “Straight Outta Compton”

O’Shea Jackson Jr. gave a speech to elementary school students for a celebration of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. He also spoke to Celebswork about the impact of the N.W.A biopic, Straight Outta Compton and how he thinks it can bring change to the world.

“I feel that once you take the time to see the other’s point of view or the other’s storyline, it can lead to some positivity,” Jackson, who played his father, Ice Cube, in the film, says in the interview. “That’s one thing in the movie, Straight Outta Compton, even with Jerry Heller and Suge Knight who are the obvious villain roles, we don’t show them in a super negative aspect. We see both sides of the story and it humanizes it a little bit. I figure that once the world starts to really see that and starts to really see how equal and how on the same level we all are, we’ll be in a better place.”

The actor acknowledges that the cast and crew of the movie were prepared for the criticism that the film faced. Jackson says that the opposition follows the trend of the Rap group’s legacy.

“We wanted Straight Outta Compton to affect people the way that Straight Outta Compton the album did,” he says. “We knew it’s gonna be some controversy. You can’t make the N.W.A movie without controversy. But the controversy’s really just stirring the pot, becoming the straw that stirs the drink. It’s getting people talking. Without people being aware of a problem, how can there be a solution?”

Straight Outta Compton is nominated for Original Screenplay at the 88th Annual Oscar Awards.

    1. yea. huge into gangsta rap but i remember when all that shit was goin on. havent even bothered with SOC. did the movie even mention cats like ice t or king t ATL etc? NWA didnt do it alone.

    2. Enough is enough! It was a movie loosely based on actual events with mediocre acting and y’all act like it was the second coming of Jesus or something? Lmfao! Pat yourselves on the back and move on already. Smmfh

    3. I saw this movie with my 11 year-old grandson, who had said he was interested in seeing the movie. Well I was impacted by the movie to want to know more about this group. Even though I am not a fan of rap, the movie did spark an interest and I tried to find something in print, like a magazine, or an interview, but I was not successful. Everytime I typed in “Straight Outta Compton” it would bring me to the movie. I wanted more, like bios on the singers. Well I want to congratulate everyone involved in this movie you got a message across, and inspired interest in me to know more. Good luck!
