NLE Choppa is the newest celebrity to take up boxing, energizing a trend that has been gathering steam of late.

On Monday (June 19), a video of the Memphis MC sparring in the gym began making the rounds online. The brief clip shows him throwing some punches at pro boxer Lorenzo “Truck” Simpson.

After three attempts at landing a shot, he loses his balance and begins running as Truck chases him around the ring. Though he’s proven himself in the studio time and time again, Choppa definitely has a long way to go in the squared circle.

Soon after the video went viral, the “Do It Again” rapper reshared it on his Instagram story and tagged Simpson with the following caption: “move n-gga [six laughing emojis].” The athlete then shared Choppa’s story on his own profile with five laughing emojis .

How far the Tennessee native plans on taking his boxing aspirations isn’t clear, but he certainly has a lot of work to do. As for other sports, he hasn’t been the luckiest either.

Choppa’s newly opened basketball court in his hometown burned to the ground just two days after opening. As reported by local outlet WREG, he had donated the court alongside former WNBA player Nancy Lieberman and members of the Memphis city council. It opened at the Raleigh Community Center on Powers Road on May 24, but two days later was engulfed in flames.

The Memphis Fire Department found the cause to be a pile of fireworks ignited in the middle of the court.

“It is very sad that this random action destroyed a new and valued community asset,” Nick Walker, Memphis Parks Director, told the outlet. “Memphis Parks really appreciates the partnership and sponsorship that led to the creation of The Dream Court, and we really look forward to finding a way to get an asset of similar quality back into the Raleigh community. We have been in touch with Lieberman Charities and NLE Choppa to express appreciation and support for the Raleigh community.”

Choppa also spoke to WREG last year when the court was still being built and said the following: “I’m young myself. I’m only 19 so I’m a part of the youth as well as they’re our future, they’re our upbringing and one thing I just want to focus on is, we save our youth.”
