Nipsey Hussle‘s memory continues to live on, with the Hip Hop community paying tribute to the late rapper on the fifth anniversary of his tragic murder.
On Sunday (March 31), a number of rap figures took to social media to salute the fallen rapper, who was also active in his local South Central Los Angeles community and inspired many more beyond his hometown.

Rick Ross, who collaborated with Nipsey on several songs and tried to sign him to his MMG label, posted a picture of the Victory Lap MC along with the caption: “Long live Nip.”
Fellow California native The Game, who previously took credit for discovering Neighborhood Nip, wrote on Instagram: “The city miss you homie.”

Close friend and collaborator YG posted a picture of the two of them in happier times, as did Ty Dolla $ign and Freddie Gibbs.
Jason Martin (formerly known as Problem) also wrote a lengthy message on X recalling the moment he learned Nipsey had been killed.
“On this day 5 years ago, Freddie Gibbs called me while I was on one of my morning walks. He asked ‘yo is that Nip shit true’. I had no clue of what he was talking about,” he remembered.

“I hopped on social media and saw a friend of mine being murdered by a former friend of his. I quickly called Terrace [Martin] up and we went on a drive. We were in disbelief. Not Nip. Not over there. Not like this.
“To this day, it serves as a reminder of so many things. Some positive, some negative. I can get deep but I won’t. His impact will never be forgotten.”

Production duo Mike & Keys, who worked with Nipsey extensively, posted clips of the rapper in the studio while writing: “There is Difference between talking about Making History and actually Doing it! LOVE YOU HUSSLE DA GREAT- Your Spirit Lives Thru Us.”
Lauren London, who was Nipsey Hussle’s partner at the time of his death, also wrote a moving tribute to the father of her son.
“If you know me, you know March is always tough for me,” she wrote. “31 days of holding my breath. This day decided to fall on Easter Sunday this 2024. Interesting…considering your name #GodWillRise. Energy never dies. I love you. Eternal.”
Last year, Eric Holder Jr. was sentenced to 60 years to life in prison for the murder of Nipsey (real name Ermias Joseph Asghedom).
