Nicki Minaj has a message for a special someone on her new album Pink Friday 2.

On Sunday (November 26) the “Starships” rapper took to X (formerly Twitter), where she dropped yet another breadcrumb about her forthcoming project, indicating the opening song is a tribute to someone who is no longer in her life.

However, it’s unclear if this a friend, family member or former lover.

“Last night when all the world was sleeping, I was up…missing you…a painful amount of missing you…listening to the intro track on #PinkFriday2… I wrote it for you,” she wrote.

Speaking to Vogue earlier this month, Nicki Minaj revealed that she went back to her roots while creating Pink Friday 2.

“When I look back at a lot of my music, I’m like, ‘Oh, my God, where was the me in it?’” she said to the venerated fashion outlet. “So for this album, I went back to the old game plan.”

She continued: “The idea that saying something like that [referring to the lyric, “I’m fighting for the girls who never thought they could win,” [from “I’m The Best” on Pink Friday] could give hope to people — that optimistic outlook is something I think I got away from.”

Pink Friday 2 is slated to drop on December 8, which also marks Nicki’s 41st birthday. An accompanying tour is also in the works for 2024.
