There has certainly been no shortage of Eminem news in the last month. Well, here is some more for y’all. Is anyone wondering how much bootlegging hurt the sales of “The Eminem Show?” Well, from the looks of things, not much. Word from Interscope is that as of Wednesday May 29th, Em had already moved over 284,000 units. They also said that the actual release date was very inconsistent and those figures were just from the past 36 hours. Those numbers will be good enough for the number one slot at weeks end.
What has likely helped sales of the album is the DVD that accompanies it. The free DVD is worth the price alone. It is a little over 45 minutes in length and is very entertaining. The features of the DVD include footage from a show that he did in January of ’99, the video for “Just Don’t Give A Fuck,” a preview for his upcoming Euro tour DVD, concert footage from Japan, an 8 Mile trailor and an episode of his cartoon. Interspersed between the sections are exclusive interviews.
A few things that stand out on the DVD, it is rather surreal to see the footage of his show from ’99. It is a small venue and by the end of the footage he has about 15 fans on the stage with him. It really makes you think of just how far he has come as that would not be remotely possible anymore. That was the first time I’d seen his cartoon, it was mildly amusing. The high points are the portrayals of Darryl Strawberry and Robert Downy Jr and the Ken Kaniff character.
