New Music Friday: New Singles From The Weeknd & Playboi Carti, J. Cole, Young Thug & More

The superstars are here and in big numbers for this week’s New Music Friday, which features mammoth new releases from R&B demons and rap Gods.

The Weeknd takes top billing with his new Playboi Carti-assisted single “Timeless,” while J. Cole continues his guest feature run by delivering show-stealing verses on new tracks from Tee Grizzley and Daylyt.

Young Thug also drops music from behind bars as his YSL RICO trial drags on, Lil Durk serves up another Love Songs 4 the Streets 3 offering and BIA collaborates with Lil Yachty for an anthemic drop.

There’s also some throwback love for Ciara and Busta Rhymes, while Maxo Kream and Tyler, The Creator prove their chemistry on “Big Persona” was no one-off.

Rounding out a big week of releases is new music from Rod Wave, Meek Mill, Saweetie and more.

See the full list below and check out this week’s best new albums, featuring projects from NLE Choppa, DaBaby, Moneybagg Yo and more.

The Weeknd feat. Playboi Carti — “Timeless”

Produced By: Pharrell, Mike Dean, Ojivolta & Twisco

An all-star collaboration between The Weeknd, Playboi Carti, Pharrell and Mike Dean, “Timeless” is considerably moodier than “Dancing in the Flames,” the lead single from Abel’s upcoming album Hurry Up Tomorrow.

Tee Grizzley feat. J. Cole — “Blow For Blow”

    Produced By: Pi’erre Bourne

    J. Cole’s feature hot streak shows no signs of slowing down as he steps up on this raucous Pi’erre Bourne beat and appears to be having much more fun than he was at any point on Might Delete Later.

Nigo & Young Thug — “Dope Boy”

    Produced By: Wheezy

Short but sweet, this Thugger verse sees him in full-on namedrop mode, giving shout outs to everyone from luxury watchmaker Richard Mille to film director Spike Lee. Expect “Dope Boy” to live on the BAPE founder’s upcoming album I Know Nigo Too!, the sequel to his star-studded 2022 debut.

Lil Durk — “Turn Up a Notch”

    Produced By: Southside & Smatt

Continuing the build-up to his next album, the Chicago star raps about defying expectations over an eclectic beat that jitters with trap and a hint of guitar.

BIA feat. Lil Yachty — “Pissed Off”

    Produced By: Lil Rich

After previewing the song to much success on TikTok, BIA has finally dropped the finished article that sees her and Yachty rage against just about everything.

Ciara feat. Busta Rhymes — “Wassup”

Produced By: J.R. Rotem, Ciara, Courtlin Jabrae & Andy D. Park

The aim of “Wassup” is to let its listener have some fun as Ciara swaps her singing voice for more biting raps, with Busta also spitting at supersonic speed.

Rod Wave — “Fall Fast In Love”

Produced By: T5, Neekomadethis, Chris Made & Flexondatrack

Rod Wave continues to wear his heart on his sleeve on the latest single from his forthcoming (and potentially final?) album Last Lap, which drops October 11.

Maxo Kream feat. Tyler, The Creator — “Cracc Era”

    Produced By: Tyler, The Creator

Their second collaboration after 2021’s “Big Persona,” “Cracc Era” further suggests that Maxo and Tyler might be the new Slim Thug and The Neptunes.

The Kid LAROI feat. Gunna — “Baby I’m Back (Remix)”

Produced By: Dopamine & Rogét Chahayed

Gunna may not be everybody’s favorite rapper right now, but Australian superstar The Kid LAROI sees no issue with the YSL artist, recruiting him for a remix of his hit “Baby I’m Back.”

Produced By: Twix, Lavish & Lor
