NEW MUSIC FRIDAY

After a long hiatus we are back with another edition of New Music Friday, HipHopDX’s intensive round-up of all the best brand new singles from the world of Hip Hop and R&B.

In our first list of the year, EST Gee leads things off with two brand-new singles in “BLOW UP” and “IF I STOP NOW” as he tries to follow-up his prolific 2022 run. Meanwhile, the West Coast’s own Mozzy stepped forward this week with “Every Night” featuring Baby Money, his first single of the new year.

For those reaching for something with smoother tones, look no further than Daniel Caesar’s “Do You Like Me,” his first track since last year’s “Please Do Not Lean” with BADBADNOTGOOD.

Also dropping this week is Dreamville MC Bas with “Diamonds,” Rae Sremmurd with “Sucka Or Sum” and so many more.

Keep reading for the complete list, and let us know your favorite track of the week in the comments.

EST Gee – “BLOW IT UP” / “IF I STOP NOW”

EST Gee has gone from an underground trap icon to a household name in just a small handful of years. His work with 42 Dugg, on projects such as Last Ones Left from 2022, as well as his solo work on Bigger Than Life Or Death and I Never Felt Nun solidified him as next up.

His latest two singles, “BLOW IT UP” and “IF I STOP NOW” are just a reminder of his prowess for heavy, grimy trap and his affinity for trunk-rattling beats. It may be less than six months since his past project, but we’re already ready for another one.

Mozzy f. Baby Money – “Every Night”

Mozzy’s career has been a master class in consistency and adapting to the current musical environment without sacrificing any of the personality and uniqueness of one’s craft.

Hailing from Sacramento, California, Mozzy’s career first began through albums such as Izizzel Izzy Izie Izim from 2011 and The Tonite Show with Mozzy from two years later. He’s steadily released music ever since, leading up to last year’s excellent Survivor’s Guilt and now his latest single “Every Night” featuring Baby Money.

Daniel Caesar – “Do You Like Me?”

Rae Sremmurd – “Sucka Or Sum”

Directly after dropping their hotly anticipated and well-received SR3MM in 2018, the duo known as Rae Sremmurd disappeared, only occasionally resurfacing when one of the two members hopped on a feature or guest verse.

That’s changing in 2023 and Slim Jxmmi and Swae Lee are back together, first with “Torpedo” and now with “Sucka Or Sum.” It’s all leading towards their upcoming album which is likely slated for a summer release, pairing nicely with their scheduled performance at the infamous Coachella Music Festival.

Ray Vaughn f. Ab-Soul – “Sandcastles”

When Kendrick Lamar announced that Mr. Morale & The Big Stepperswould be his final release through his longtime home team Top Dawg Entertainment, the state of the infamous label imprint was left in question.

Those fears were largely quelled with the release of SZA’s smash-hit album SOS last year, and new signee Ray Vaughn’s latest release hints that they may have another someone special in training.

“Sancastles” by Ray Vaughn also features Ab-Soul, who is still reeling from the highs of his latest release HERBERT.

XXXTENTACION – “VERY RARE FOREVER FREESTYLE”

Brent Faiyaz & DJ Taj – “All Mine (Jersey Club)”

In 2022 Brent Faiyaz released arguably the best record of the year in WASTELAND, a sweeping epic of love, dichotomous personalities and scandal. An album with such immense density and weight deserves to enjoy a lifespan longer than most flash-in-the-pan releases, so Faiyaz is doing it justice with a DJ Taj-helmed Jersey Club remix to “All Mine.”
