You have gotta take the good with the bad. This past week Nelly and his crew the St. Lunatics were honored by Missouri’s governor, Bob Holden, for their work in the community. They were recognized at a ceremony in Jefferson City for encouraging students to increase their standardized test scores. The deal was that for each school who increased their overall scores, Nelly and the Lunatics would come to their school to play ball with them.
After Holden was finished praising them Representative Charles Portwood let off some buckshots at Nelly. “Here we are honoring a man for his contribution to the education of our kids, but if you read his lyrics he is talking about promiscuous sex, crystal meth, snorting cocaine. These are the kinds of things you want your kids to hear?” Portwood said. “If it demeans our society, it’s wrong.” As expected, Nelly responded by dodging the accusation.
