Nelly is being sued by his former group St. Lunatics for $50 million, but the lawsuit is reportedly not supported by any member of the collective except Ali Jones.
The St. Louis group filed the hefty suit against the “Hot in Herre” hitmaker last month, accusing him of not crediting them for work they did on his 2000 debut album Country Grammar, which topped the Billboard 200 and has since been certified diamond.

Now, according to a legal letter filed by Nelly’s attorney that was obtained by TMZ, the other three members of the group — Murphy Lee, Kyjuan and City Spud — did not authorize their inclusion in the lawsuit.
Lee, Kyjuan and Spud allegedly want to be removed from the suit, have hired Nelly’s lawyer as their own and are threatening legal action against Ali if the wish isn’t granted.

The three members of the group were allegedly surprised by the lawsuit as they are still close with Nelly and just recently performed with him at the 2024 American Music Awards, though Ali was noticeably absent.
In 2023, Ali vowed he’d never perform with Nelly ever again because of money he allegedly owed the group.
“I’ll say like it could be $90,000 or $70,000,” he estimated of the money he was owed in an interview with VladTV. “When that conversation happens, I’ll get a check. It’ll be $13,000. Now you’ll be fucked up because what is this $13,000 for? You owe me $91,000.”
He added: “What did you pay me for? At the end of it, it’s gonna be $66,000 because he’s far behind on the payments.”

Ali continued: “A tiger ain’t never gon’ change his stripes. I watched it for 20 years and I’m the butt of the joke because it took me 20 years to realize it. I could put a never, ever behind it will I ever hit the stage or do anything with him.
“He has no real raw good intentions for others. Not for us and we’ve all sat together and searched hard to try to find a time that didn’t benefit him. He got $50 million, I’m happy for him. That’s what he wants. He wants a billion.”

The $50 million Ali was referencing is the reported figure that Nelly was paid for selling half of his music publishing catalog last June.
