“I misinterpreted something when I was really, really new and I want to apologize to Em,” he said. “But I was at a time where I’m coming in, I’m the new guy, anybody talking… you know, we from the Lou. Somehow I misinterpreted that he had something to say about what we were doing.”
The “Hot In Herre” hitmaker then explained how they managed to patch up their differences in Detroit, a wholesome meeting that left him feeling like a “dick.”

“We were at an afterparty and somebody came and was like, ‘Yo, Em wanna come through and holla.’ I’m like, ‘Okay,'” he recalled. “When he came, he had Hailey with him, she was young. He was like, ‘Yo man, my daughter’s [a fan].’ I felt like a dick, man. Because we were Eminem fans! It was just a miscommunication, man.”
Nelly went on to praise the self-proclaimed Rap God, saying: “Em is the G.O.A.T., man. He’s a dope cat, man. I’m glad we got that out the way. It’s fucked up when people that you fuck with and that you admire. It’s like, dude spits! […] I’m glad we squashed that.”
Back in August 2000, Nelly appeared on MTV’s Total Request Live and took a jab at Eminem amid their tussle for chart dominance involving their respective albums Country Grammar and The Marshall Mathers LP.
Asked by guest host KK Holiday for his thoughts on his Midwest rival, he said: “Well, I don’t too much know nothing ’bout dirrty, you know what I’m saying? But he be having some sly little comments about me.”
He added: “I don’t play with candy, you know what I’m saying? I eat M&Ms, flat out. I just don’t think dude plans on coming to tour in St. Louis, that’s all.”
After rumors of Eminem dropping a diss song called “Detroit Grammar,” which never materialized, he would later respond on the track “Invasion,” rapping: “I’ma get to stomping in my Air Force Ones / But you won’t be able to tell if it’s two pairs or it’s one / It’s just gonna feel like so many feet kicking you / You’ll think Nike just made these into cleats in the shoe.”

D12 were also starred alongside Nelly in the Adam Sandler comedy The Longest Yard, which was released in 2005 and featured Em on the soundtrack.
