Nelly and Ashanti spent the New Year in different places, but still made it a point to show each other some love on a video call.
In the early hours of Monday (January 1), the couple hopped on Instagram Live to commemorate the new year. The “Hot In Herre” hitmaker appeared to be inside a club, likely Atlantis Paradise Island in the Bahamas, where he was performing as part of the Party Like a Royal New Year’s Eve event.

Ashanti, wearing a robe, seemed settled somewhere more comfortable (likely in or around Springfield, VA, where she did a NYE show with Ja Rule). She did, however, make the effort to match his energy by putting on sunglasses for the call.
“You look good, mama!” he said through the noise. “Happy New Year, baby!”

After she thanked him, the two didn’t say much else, but they stayed on the stream as music blared through the speakers at Nelly’s venue. At certain points, they even jammed out to songs together.

Last month, Nelly’s Black White Ball returned to his hometown of St. Louis for the first time in seven years. However, it was a moment he shared with Ashanti that had everyone talking.
In a viral video clip from the early-December event, the couple could be seen onstage together. Both of them rubbed the 43-year-old’s stomach as the MC appeared to be laughing. Many saw this as a response to his exhortation that the celebrity couple should “seal the deal.”
This was not the first time that Nelly, Ashanti and the potential of a baby made news. In November, the Grammy winner responded jokingly to a fan who brought up the possibility of the pair having a kid.
In an Instagram video, Nelly shared a clip of a new car gifted to him by Ashanti for his birthday with the caption: “Dammm mama you did that..!! Bday gift overkill …!!”

In the comments section, one fan brazenly wrote: “Get her pregnant @nelly [laughing emoji] TONIGHT!!” to which the Southern icon succinctly replied: “I’m on it,” along with a salute emoji.
