Mozzy Shooting Leads To Temporary Closure Of Kansas Club

Mozzy‘s detainment by police following a mass shooting at an afterparty that left nine people injured has now also caused the venue in question to temporarily close its doors.

The chaotic scene occurred in Wichita, Kansas on Saturday (July 1) at a nightclub called City Nightz, where Mozzy was enjoying an afterparty following a performance at a nearby venue. Footage shows panic ensuing inside the club after shots ring out, and police said the nine victims were men and women ranging in age from 21 to 34.

Five were taken to local hospitals via ambulance and two suffered “traumatic injuries” as a result of being trampled during the crowd rush.

As the Wichita Police Department tries to figure out what happened, local outlet12 News has reported that City Nightz has now also been hit with a 30-day suspension following the mass shooting.

Brandon Young, a 31-year-old from Florissant, Missouri, was arrested by WPD in connection with the incident, with Chief Joe Sullivan telling 12 News that Young was working as a security guard for Mozzy. He added that the shooting could have been prevented if people had been screened before entering the club.

“We need to take a strong stance in response to what occurred, because in my estimate,” I believe it was totally preventable,” Sullivan said, adding that City Nightz had experienced 12 prior violent incidents in 2023 alone.

“You can’t have gun violence under control. If you have one homicide, one shooting, that’s too many,” Sullivan said. “We were actually below last year in shooting victims, but due to the number of the shooting victims that happened in that one incident, we were slightly above last year. It’s a major concern for us … I am really hoping this is a wakeup call for club owners across our city, not just in Old Town.”

The incident comes less than two months after Mozzy was released from prison early in his federal gun case.

The 36-year-old served 10 months behind bars and was hit with a $55,000 fine after turning himself in to federal authorities last July.

His conviction was related to an incident in January 2022 when police officers pulled him over in Culver City, California on a traffic stop.

After claiming they smelled “burnt marijuana,” cops searched his car and discovered a Glock 26, 16 rounds of 9mm ammunition and a “personal use” amount of marijuana. Mozzy was booked and released after posting $35,000 bail.
