Most Successful Rap Artists Of The Year

While I definitely don’t consider him a hip hop artist and hardly a rapper, Nelly was the top dog for the year 2001, finishing number 10 on the overall top 200 chart. Outkast repped it well coming in at 16 for the year, they were followed by Ja Rule (Rule 3:36) at 27 and Ludicris (Back For The First Time) at 29.

The other rappers rounding out the top 50 were Lil’ Bow Wow at 36 followed by Snoop at 37, D-12 finished at 39 with Pac close behind at 40. Jay-Z clocked in twice, at 52 for “The Blueprint” and 58 for “Dynasty.” Despite being released in May of 2000, Eminem’s “Marshall Mathers LP” still sold enough units to give him the 72nd spot. Nice to see Xzibit get his due and finish an impressive 77th.

Sadly enough, the top “rap” single of the year was Lil’ Romeo’s “My Baby.” Others worth mentioning are Outkast at number 3 for “Ms Jackson” and D-12 at number 9 for “Purple Pills/Hills.”
