Miguel, like many of his peers, is a huge fan of Pharrell and has been since he was a teen.

The “Sure Thing” singer was a guest on the Million Dollars Worth of Game podcast earlier this month, where hosts Gillie Da Kid and Wallo brought up a potential collab with Skateboard P. While noting they’d cooked things up in the past, Miguel was sure to give the producer/rapper his flowers.

“P is a big inspiration. People forget the context of Pharrell,” he said. “Skateboard P came out, this Black, alternative [artist] and people were like, huh? They didn’t understand that. And this is exactly where I’m in high school. I mean, who was cooler? Who was cooler than P?”

He continued: “[N.E.R.D.] came out hard. On a skateboard and trucker hat, meanwhile producing [hard-hitting Hip Hop tracks like] ‘Superthug’ and ‘Wait A Minute.'”

Much like Miguel, Kid Cudi recently gave Pharrell his flowers as well, attributing his early interest in fashion to the ICECREAM founder.

During a brief chat with Maurice Kamara of The People Gallery last month, the MOTR-clad rapper discussed his clothing sense and told viewers to “be free, do your thing.”

“When I was young, man — I mean like 2001, 2002 — like, Pharrell was like the style god to me,” Cudi said about first gravitating toward expressing himself through fashion. “It was like I was learning how to be fresh at that time and like he was like the person I’d check for, most of the time.”

He continued: “The fashion in Cleveland was not very forward, so like I would look to guys like P or, y’know, when Kanye came out.”

Always fashion forward, Pharrell became Men’s Head Designer at Louis Vuitton earlier this year – and it’s something he never imagined he would have the privilege of doing.

The multi-hyphenate spoke with GQ in August, where he reflected on taking over at the iconic luxury brand. The position was left open by the late Virgil Abloh, and Pharrell never thought he’d be the one the company would ask to fill it.

“It wasn’t an interview or anything,” Pharrell said of the conversation with Louis Vuitton CEO Pietro Beccari. “It was like, ‘Will you accept this position? Will you accept this appointment?’ I’m looking at the water and I’m just like, ‘What?’”

Ultimately, Pharrell thought the role would be given to his longtime friend and collaborator Nigo, who currently heads LVMH brand Kenzo.

“He’s my hero, he’s my brother, and he’s the general,” he said of Nigo. “I’ve been championing him for a minute. And whenever me and Alexandre [Arnault] talk about LV, we would always just talk about different people. I’ve always been in the background, just advising. I never thought that it would be me.”
