Migos’ Style Was ‘Stolen’ By Entire Music Industry Says David Banner

Migos played a major role in Atlanta having another Hip Hop renaissance in the 2010s when they shifted the sound of modern trap and burst through the doors of mainstream Hip Hop around 2016. David Banner, for one, doesn’t think they get their dues and says they have a ton of clones walking around the industry.

Speaking to Hip Hop Uncensored Podcast over the weekend, the Mississippi-bred superproducer claimed Southern artists will pull certain elements from those who came before them, but not even give credit when it works.

“I watched the whole industry jack the Migos style and jack the way that they were rapping,” he explained. “Then get on TV and act like they didn’t rip the boys’ whole style off.”

David Banner continued, “We can’t say, ‘Ay, those folks dope, bro?’ Beats by the Pound did all of the original No Limit music and I personally think those boys should be on the same level as Timbaland and The Neptunes.”

This isn’t the first time Banner has banged his fists on the table demanding the Migos get their respect. Even back in 2016, when the ATL trio was just in the midst of their ascension, Banner called for the group to be given their proper credit.

Takeoff Says Migos Wants Their Flowers Ahead Of ‘Culture III’

“I think people should give @Migos their proper credit,” he wrote. “Their style is dope enough to use but you won’t say their names.”

While Migos’ members have pursued solo routes and stayed out of the music spotlight since Culture II, which released over three years ago, the seminal Grammy-nominated group is expected to make their highly-anticipated return with the third installment of the Culture series in the coming months.

    1. srill couldnt name a migos song or know who they ere is a song they had played that g o d box by banner was slept on though

    2. I’m a huge fan of David Banner but he’s way off on this one!! The Migos “style” has been used for years before they even were rappers. Lord Infamous, even Silk the Shocker and Manny Fresh was all over the place with his adlibs! But if you giving credit, Future, is the one who truly made this style popular!

      1. You talking the way they rap Banner speaking of they whole style. Migos is more than a flow….. if not they would not have lasted this long. They encapsulate an entire vibe. You can love them or hate them but they are Hip Hops #1 trio.

        1. What vibe are you talking about??? Simple, bragadocious, hyperbolic lyrics and personalities?? That’s been done to death since hip-hops inception … you are definitely 15 with no perspective on the history of “the culture” or reality

        2. They’re hip hops only trio with a name and money behind them so that’s not hard. I can’t even name another trio

            1. We can add them and I rock with them but they don’t get mainstream attention, budget etc. But they are for sure better than the migos

    3. I think this argument is the dumbest ever……and the comments. David Banner is right, but it doesn’t start there.
Bone thugs started it. Nobody had that cadence before that unless you talking about that early jay-z style but it wasn’t fluid.
People will respond “they just rap fast its different”. Wrong. Bone experimented and used ALL styles and cadences that can be used rapping double time or playing with those pockets. Layzie bone specifically has used the entire Migos style all the time. Handle the vibe(Art of war) is one song I can think off of the dome. This is suppose to be Hip Hop yall. In order to sit in this class, you gotta do your homework.

    4. wrong song after I looked it up. BTNH introduction (krayzie and Layzie verse of e1999 eternal)even the hook,Clog up your mind(aow)….. just 2 random songs. The only difference is Migos is Monotone like all ‘new’ rappers without autotune (turned on).

    5. Migos birth father is SKIPPA DA FLIPPA. They stole his whole style. FOH banner, you just saying shit for attention.

    6. Migos deserve they credit for being able to stick around for some years but not for their style
because they don’t have a style. Their style is a mix of No limit, Bone Thugs N Harmony, Hot Boyz and Three 6 Mafia.

    7. Lord Infamous was the first one go back to the early serial killers albums and early triple six he did it first but bone went nationwide with it

        1. They not talking bout horrorcore nip hands down bout that style to nationwide wit south park pyscho esham was doing it too but wasn’t as big as nip

    8. Washed up David Banner chasing clout! Be gone fool, no one is catching migos girl style! FOH fat boy! You are not even relevant! Be gone!!!

    9. That “style” is called the triplets flow created by Lord Infamous which was an ode to flow used by many Reggae/Dance hall artists.
Many in Memphis and beyond used that flow before Migos, BUT the exact style and nature that Migos was emulating was Future (2010-2013 era). My point being, Migos aren’t credited because they don’t deserve it.

    10. First of all, that’s not their style. Second, stop dickriding, David. You’re not getting Migos feature.

    11. When David Banner start saying stupid sh–t HipHop really dead. He been around too long
to say something that off. It’s ok to give them their due, but do it while stating facts. Gotta hit Banner with that John Starks line Did this dude just said this.

    12. Credit Crucial Conflict, Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, 3-6 mafia, Do or Die, Mystikal, Juvenile, Countless of other artist especially from Memphis 90’s and 2000’s all of them deserve the credit for the style migos uses. But make no mistake the style is similar but the talent and quality is not.

    13. Who cares wut david banner thinks??? They stole it from Bone & 3-6 mafia.. So wut does banner got to say about that??

    14. Their “style” is reaching into a bag, pulling out random hip-hop buzz words, and mumbling them over the same stupid beat over and over. How much credit is that really worth? They’d get laughed out of a room with real MCs.

    15. Relax yall it was 4/20 David was high he didn’t know what the fuzz he was talking about. The high gone so hopefully he want say anything else so off base.

    16. migos ruled hip hop since their arrival, youth were pulled out of rap to trap,,,,, wooooooooooo!!!!!

    17. David Banner just trying to be on the spotlight…

What about Bone Thugs and 3-6 Mafia not getting enough props for their influence on current music?

    18. Banner is always claiming things were stolen when he ripped off the ying yang twins whisper song just months after it was released. Straight hypocrisy comes out of this dude’s mouth.

    19. I mean the radio sounds like one long southern music tribute. If anything people are scared to be themselves in rap. Underground shit still got some individuals

    20. All flash, no substance. Sign of the times. They probably “rap” over their own vocal tracks when they perform. Who started that trend? Back in the day your career would be over if you got caught doing that Milli Vanilli type shit

        1. Well if you listened to any southern rap from been in the day you would know Memphis invented the triplet flow. And the sound migrated to Atlanta. Even 2 Chainz said it

    21. David Banner wilding for this one. I don’t think migos have a original style. Their flow is like a knock off Bone flow. Migos make some catchy stuff here and there but overall the quality of song making is not good. I would say Bone Thugs never got their love, respect from the Industry. Lil wayne said Bone Thugs was the reason he grew out his hair, then wayne got dreds and then everybody got dreds.

    22. kids dont listen to migos anymore they bumping youngboy, durk, rod wave, migos time
passed cardi b kept they name out there for a while, they even fake a divorce for some attention

    23. If I want to incorporate Migos for what music sounds like today then I’d be placing blame not giving credit.
