Quavo has revealed how Migos came up with their legendary “mama” ad-lib, confirming that it was indeed inspired by his mother.

In a sit-down with his Praise This co-star Chloë Bailey for Complex‘s “G.O.A.T. Talk” series, the Migos member was asked to share his pick for the “G.O.A.T. ad-lib,” to which he eagerly replied: “Mama!”

Quavo went on to explain that the signature phrase was often exclaimed by himself, Offset and TakeOff when they were in trouble at home.

“The story behind the ‘mama’ ad-lib is she used to chase us up and down the house trying to whoop us,” he said. “And we’d make sure to call her name and say, ‘I’m just playing, mama! I’m just playing, mama! I’m just playing!’

“Then when she get to you, you say, ‘Mama, mama, mama!’ Only when you in trouble is you calling her name like that.”

Elsewhere in the interview, Bailey — who is rumored to be dating Quavo — asked him to give her some dating advice, but she wasn’t impressed with what the rapper came up with.

“G.O.A.T. dating advice? Be yourself. What do you say?” Chlöe said before passing the baton to Huncho.

Quavo mumbled with a smile: “Don’t trust these hoes. I’m just playing.”

“What?” a stunned Bailey responded. “You talking about yourself.”

They also shared their opinions on the never-ending G.O.A.T. rapper debate, with Bailey giving Kendrick Lamar the crown while Quavo opted to go with JAY-Z.

“I gotta go with JAY-Z. Great businessman. O.G. gonna give us some lessons and show us the way,” he said.

Quavo and Chlöe Bailey sparked dating rumors earlier in April when they were seen getting cozy on the red carpet for Praise This, which landed on Peacock earlier this month.

“Chloe & Quavo actually look good together,” one person wrote on Twitter, while another added: “Hear me out…..chloe and quavo would make a cute couple.”

However, Bailey had previously pushed back on these rumors during a conversation on Latto’s Apple Music 777 Radio show last month.

“The tea was that you were talking to Quavo,” Latto explained to her.

Baily admitted there was some truth to her and the rapper hanging out, but it was only due to an unreleased project they were working on.

Latto, however, didn’t quite buy it. “They was saying that ya’ll was hangin’ out, outside the movie,” she said.

The singer made it clear that the two were just “working together,” and nothing more. “I don’t know where that came from,” she said, adding Quavo was a “really nice guy.”

Quavo is currently hard at work on his new solo album, and recently declared that “2014 Huncho” was back on his latest single “Honey Bun.”
