After the release of Danger Doom’s “The Mouse and the Mask”, MF Doom revealed some new plans for the future.
Danger Doom is a group consisting of two underground heavyweights in Danger Mouse (famous for his “Grey Album” mash-up of “The White Album” by the Beatles and Jay-Z’s “The Black Album,”) and MF Doom. Some may remember MF Doom from his previous name, Zev Love X from the 90’s known as K.M.D.
The group’s album has recently landed at number two on Billboard’s Independent Albums list and has garnered a lot of critical acclaim.
With this success, Doom and Danger Mouse already have plans for a second album together. While this album focuses on The Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim programs, the next one will be as if it was made by the cartoon characters themselves. Doom plans on rhyming from a cartoon character’s point of view.
“I wanted to do that with this album,” he explained to Billboard. “I started to do some characters after I got the standard songs out of the way, but then [the label] said they needed all the songs in.”
So what does he have planned for the next release? “On the next album, though, I’m doing some characters. I have enough beats from Danger to do half an album already.”
Danger Mouse isn’t the only underground producer Doom is working with. According to sources, he is also in the studio with Madlib for the sophomore album for their group, Madvillain. Their first album “Madvillainy” was met with praise from many critics and fans.
Another highly anticipated album Doom has in store is a collaborative effort with Wu-Tang Clan member, Ghostface Killah. “I’m into old hip-hop, and the music that he makes is right up my alley,” Ghostface said. “His beats are real underground. He’s got the sound RZA had back in the day.”
At one point Talib Kweli showed a lot of interest in signing Doom to his Blacksmith Records label. He expressed this on BET’s “Rap City” and also showed interest in signing Jean Grae as well as Rakim. Jean Grae has already been added to the Blacksmith roster.
To top things off, Doom has a new gig with the folks at The Cartoon Network. The rapper will be do voice over work for a show titled “Perfect Hair Forever.” He will play a giraffe named Sherman from New York.
It seems as though the underground emcee has a lot on his plate and a lot in store for the near future.
