Metro Boomin lost his mother less than one year ago, and he certainly went through several emotions as he experienced his first Mother’s Day without her.

Metro’s mother Leslie Wayne was shot and killed by her husband, who was not the producer’s father, who then turned the gun on himself last June. Law enforcement discovered Wayne’s body in an area outside of Atlanta.

This occurred just weeks after they’d spent Mother’s Day 2022 together, and in reflection this year, Metro shared a photo he took of her on that day.

“I remember Mothers Day last year we rode together to go pick up some pizza and you really admired the inside of this truck,” the producer wrote. “I had told you I hadn’t really drove it in years and I felt your antennas go up. You went on about the truck some more and I told you that you could have it. You got real excited and wanted to take a picture with it when we got back. You were the QUEEN of posing for pictures and I’m sure that’s where my youngest brother gets it from.”

He continued: “You had so much personality and charisma as well as hustle and drive as well as humility and compassion and I know that’s where I get all of that from. If I only knew You would be taken from me a few weeks later. I miss everything about You and it hurts so much as I cry so much typing this. Everyday I’ve woke up for the past year is like a nightmare that’s never gon end. I Love and miss You with all my heart and every piece of my being.

“Gonna continue to do great things and dedicate it all back to You,” Metro added. “I can’t stress enough for everybody to love your parents while they are here because they are the only ones we get. Happy Mothers Day to all the Queens out there and to everyone going through this day without their Queen just know you are not alone.”

Wayne raised Metro along with three other siblings and, as told by Metro, was the earliest supporter of his music. On her birthday in 2019, the platinum producer gifted her a birthday purse in the passenger seat of a car, and called her his “biggest inspiration.”

One story Metro had previously shared was when his mother drove him hours from St. Louis to Atlanta to help him meet OJ Da Juiceman, who would go on to help Metro get a foot in the music industry.

In December, Metro Boomin honored his late mother with the purchase of a new chain that features a photo of her inside the pendant.
