Meek Mill has backtracked on his claim that he was pickpocketed for his phone during his visit to Ghana for this year’s Afro Nation music festival.

On Thursday (December 29), Meek took to Instagram with a message stating someone had “pickpocketed” his phone and he wanted it back. The Dream Chasers boss shared several videos on his IG Stories of him out and about with Ghanaians while on his way to the festival.

Meek had been feeling all the love from the locals and explained in one Story that he was planning to get a house in Ghana. Things turned sour on the next slide, though.

“They pick pocketed me for my phoneeeeeee SMH….Bring that Jawn back if you got it!!” he wrote.

It wasn’t long until the phone was found and returned to the Philly rapper. On Friday (December 30), Ghana police hand-delivered Meek his phone and revealed that they had arrested a suspect named Nuhu Sule.

“I wanna say thank you guys for getting my phone back to my life, man,” Meek can be heard saying in a video he posted to his Instagram Story showing his phone being returned. “Y’all ain’t let him hack me or nothing, did y’all, Commander?”

However, Meek has now admitted that maybe his phone wasn’t stolen and instead it could have fallen out of his pocket while he was out riding his dirt bike.

“I coulda dropped that phone on a dirt bike I don’t actually know for a fact somebody went in my pocket!” he tweeted on Friday night.

Perhaps a tad bit guilt-ridden, he then let it be known that he didn’t want anyone being charged for the theft, especially given that he wasn’t really sure whether the phone was snatched from his pocket.

“I got it back that’s all I needed I don’t need anybody locked up for a phone,” he wrote. “I don’t even know what happened to it.”

Regardless of his initial setback due to his lost phone, Meek was able to hit the stage at Afro Nation on Thursday night, which also featured performances from Davido, Skepta, Rema, Black Sherif, Tiwa Savage and others across its two days. But things got crazy once again after the show as the former MMG rapper tried to exit.

“They roughed me tf upppppp but the love overpowered it … almost went from dreams to nightmares quick lol,” Meek captioned an Instagram post showing him getting into a physical altercation with a fan.

Ahead of the trip, Meek Mill actually found out that he’s 18 percent Ghanaian when he received the results of a DNA test he got through Ancestry.com. Posting the results on his Instagram Story, the Philadelphia native circled the 18 percent labeled “Ivory Coast & Ghana” and wrote, “My second home!!!”

Last week, Meek Mill got in the holiday spirit by paying the bail of 20 Philadelphia women so that they could spend the holidays with their families.

The women also received a gift card to help with last minute holiday or food shopping. Meek Mill explained that his own experiences as an incarcerated parent inspired him to cover the women’s bail.

“It was devastating for me to be away from my son during the holidays when I was incarcerated,” Meek Mill explained in the statement. “So I understand what these women and their families are going through. No one should have to spend the holidays in jail simply because they can’t afford bail. I’m grateful for the opportunity to help these women be with their families and loved ones during this special time of year.”
