MC Lyte Sends Message to DX Readers

During a recent interview with MC Lyte, the first solo female rap artist to go gold spoke on HipHopDX readers with a message she wanted to deliver.

In the past, a couple of her songs made it to the Top 10 Most Listened to Tracks list in our Audio Section [click here]. This prompted some of the readers to comment with some choice words for Lyte. Recently, her song “Rocking with the Best” [click to listen] made it to the same list, prompting similar comments.

As a result, MC Lyte said she wanted to clarify some things.

I wanted to make a comment about HipHopDX. When you guys put a song up of mine on your site, people think I give it to you. I don’t,” she said. “I don’t know really know how you guys get it but I saw a comment like ‘Enough already with the MC Lyte!’ I think Eminem was 1-7 and somehow ‘Brooklyn’ [click here] climbed up and ‘New York City Girl’ [click here] climbed up there and made it to number 1. Of course, once I see it up there, I’ll tweet about it and let people know that it’s there. Definitely want your readers to know that I don’t have any connection with you guys. I don’t pay you to put anything up and I certainly don’t pay to have it go number one. It just does it because people are interested.”

    Lyte
also shed some light on her new album, which has no finalized release date as of yet.

The songs that I’ve done so far are very personal and very truthful and every verse matters,” she said.

More from Lyte in a full length interview later this month. Stay tuned.
