Lyfe Jennings Sentenced To 3.5 Years In Prison

R&B singer Lyfe Jennings has been sentenced to three-and-a-half years in prison yesterday (September 22) in an Atlanta court.

The sentencing stems from a 2008 indictment, which was the result of a heated confrontation with then-girlfriend a mother of Jennings’ child.

Reports say Jennings kicked in the door of a house in Smyrna, Georgia, and fired three rounds from a .40 caliber glock into the street. He then fled the scene in a 2005 Corvette, and allegedly refused to stop for police.

Eventually, the singer was stopped, at which point he refused to take a sobriety test. He was charged with DUI test refusal, criminal trespassing, discharging a weapon near a street, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and fleeing or attempting to elude a police offer.

Jennings addressed the issue via his Twitter account (@Lyfeonline419). “To everyone who gave me a chance I am forever in your debt. I have had a fabulous career because of you. All I can say in parting is that I have been honest with [ya’ll]. I didn’t sugarcoat a word didn’t hold back a single [syllable] of my life from [ya’ll]. I’ve lived a hundred lives in these 6 yrs so I not only won’t,I don’t have the right to complain. I would like to think that I’ve changed lives by changing my own, tho[ugh] I can’t be sure. But one thing I am sure of is God gives and takes away in measure. He is fair, just and forever. Amen from a man… Smile, its contageous:)”

He released his fourth album, I Still Believe, on August 31.

More on this as it develops.

    1. first..hold ya head lyfe..second strike for u homie..hope that when u touch back down you’ll get your shit together…its crazy that there’s an R&B dude realer than 90 percent of these rappers out here…

      1. I agree with what you wrote about Lyfe..people always trying to throw stones and don’t know the whole 411. Some people think because someone in the music business, they not suppose to have problems or things happen in their lifes. I mean no one really knows what type of mind frame Lyfe was in that day and to me, it seem like he just let things take toll on him and he just went off. I mean really, sometimes it happens..we get pushed to our breaking point.

      2. being an idiot makes you real ? try not getting caught dumb ass , you sound like one of those dummies that can’t stay out of jail

    2. Wow. lyfe jennings you screwed up. We all do. I hope you learn something man. However, what does it mean he is realer than most rappers. Because he did a kick door and fired rounds in the sky. real? No. Stupid yes. Come on man, can we the fake gangsta prose and be grown once in our lives.

      1. do your research for u get on your soapbox b..lyfe did a prior ten year stretch before becoming a singer..he led cops on a wild car chase before they subdued him..all these rappers here mean mugging and talking reckless wouldn’t bust a grape..never said this dude should be idolized..I said he is what he sings about wrong or not..now hop the fuck off your pedestal and relax…

      2. No soapbox. I said his actions were stupid. They were. I also said those actions dont make him real. Reading what you said…re read please. It sounds like you are saying he was real because he actually did some thug stuff. I’m from the hood i speak struggle. But lets stop making criminal/illicit activity “real”. Analyze and recognize.

      3. “im from the hood”
i cant stand when niggas say that shit

the luck to which geographic location you reside in has nothing to do with the person you are!!

    3. Lyfe keep your head up Sweetheart and you will be in my prayers. Sometimes we all make mistakes in life and we have to learn from it, which I am sure he did. So in Lyfe defense, I am sure he doesn’t need anyone to tell him what he did was wrong. So really, keep your negative childish soapbox comments to yourself. Since that incident in 2008, he has learned from it and matured even more. He has loyal and true fans and when he is released in 3 years…they will still be there…I know I will.

      1. This fool did 10 years before his singing career. He just got what he deserves. Its fucked up that he had a great career ahead of him, but he decided to piss it all away for the second time. So i dont feel bad for him what so ever. But of course its gonna be a bunch of people with “free lyfe” t shirts its funny how people idolize criminals. SMDH

    4. “R&B singer Lyfe Jennings was been sentenced ……..”

Hip Hop Dx seriously has the WORST grammar of ANY website I have EVER seen. Looks like all you need to work there is a Kindergarten glue stick certificate.

    5. I AM SICK OF COMING ON THIS SITE AND READING POORLY WRITTEN ARTICLES!! CANT YA’LL MUTHAFUCKAS LEARN TO PROOF READ?! I mean seriously, didn’t ya’ll niggas go to school for journalism!? Who’s writing your fucking articles?! 5th graders?! GET YOUR GRAMMAR GAME UP HIPHOPDX OR ITS FUCK YOU!

    6. Wow yet another artist making their jail rounds! This is ridiculous! People really need to start acting with some common sense! Then again maybe they don’t have any! I have no sympathy for BS like this!

    7. i still rememember in his 1st video he had that dude tell him he never wanted to see him back locked up….. its a shame really but he did commit the crime

    8. JUST BELIVE THAT GOD HAS A PLAN FOR YOU AND NEVER STOP BELIVING IN THE POWER OF THE LORD KEEP YOUR HEAD UP . THIS GIVE YOU TIME TO THINK AND DO YOUR BEST. GOD GOT YOUR BACK SHAKE THE HATER OFF N DO YOU AND COME OUT STRONGER THEN EVER KEEP YOUR HEAD HIGH

    9. Alright I’m going down the comments and notice people saying “Keep your head up God’s got your back” and “Shake the haters”… that is a fucking joke.

#1. Kicking in your BM door and shooting in the street is not a behavior resulting from Serving the Lord.

#2. Being drunk and evading police officer’s is not him being hated on.

This guy right here has done time before and got out to a NEW life. (no pun) but to go back to the bullshit he left from is pure STUPIDITY. If I’m a hater for saying that so be it… but this guy just commited carrer suicide, when he had it made. JUST STOP DOING STUPID SHIT.

    10. at lest he manned up to it, as much as you can via twitter ???

lol how serious can things be you need to shoot up the place and flee from cops…lmao chillax gangster lyfe!

    11. Am I the only that doesn’t feel sorry for this guy? He’s already went to jail and made a career making music about his problems and doing time and how thankful he is for his new life.

Now he’s drunk firing his gun in the street, drunk driving, running from the cops? He couldve killed somebody easily. He endangered anyone who happened to be nearby. Now he’s getting 3.5 years? Probably up for a parole in about half that time too. I think he got let off easy considering he’s already been to prison once.

Just because he acts like he’s this god-serving, truthful, loving R&B singer, doesn’t mean we should forgive him, especially since this is the second time he’s going to prison.

      1. Yo what do you mean “we shouldn’t forgive him” ? He don’t owe nobody nothing. It’s his life…if GOD forgives him then what’s he care about whether you do or not?…lol smh and judgementals

      2. Regardless of what he did you have to forgive people regardless, think how many times God forgives us. Yes he is a celebrity, but he’s just a man with a flesh like the rest of us, and the bible say we will all fall short of the glory, this situation is just another piece of his testimony, and when he gets home he will be more blessed than when he went, go ahead lyfe, and add to your testimony, so the next cd will be even more powerful. Love ya Mrs. Mo!!!

      3. We should alwyas forgive god said no sin is bigger than the next. He made a mistake again and again will pay the price and from reading this he has excepted it like a man and isnt complaining. You all sounf like you wanna give him the death penalty. Did anyone get hurt? No ok then

      4. well then maybe we shouldn’t forgive you for making an outlandish comment considering you’ll do it again and again? hmmmmmm. . . .? you don’t know lyfe jennings and neither do I so don’t judge a man by his actions until you know his reasonings

    12. i find it hilarious that everyone thin “anonymous” is one guy, it just means we didnt come up wit a cool name like you guys! haha it aint the same nigga yo!

    13. This dude did all of that and only got three years. It seems that being a celebrity is the way the to go when you want to avoid getting penalized like everyone else. after doing all that he could of gotten another ten years or more. Lucky Dummy

    14. have to say, im pretty confused by all the religious bullshit being put on this board lol.

In the unlikely event that there is a God, im pretty sure he didnt have anything to do with either this cock bag firing off a gun or with him being incarcerated.

if u wanna talk religion, then fuck off to church – this board is about hip hop.

      1. I wish you well homie, you’re right this is about hip hop, but religion is bigger than all of us. I’m not here to tell you you’re wrong or right, but don’t disrespect religion it’s powerful even if you feel it’s all man created

    15. I don’t wish death or jail on anyone..He made a mistake ,granted a stupid one but he manned up and didn’t cop any pleas or make excuses..Son has a history of issues and no one can speak for him cause no one was there..so whatever…talented artist that got caught up plain and simple..

    16. I don’t have to forgive him because I am not the one he injured. I love his music and he just has to complete his time then come out with another album after his release…..or maybe he will release one while in jail…..who knows……

    17. keep your head up always, you are always in my heart love you…… your music gets me throw my life for real…..

    18. Read about how Lyfe came up in the joint when he and I did time together in my book, “THE MODEL PROJECT”, when he steadfastly stayed in the studio and wrote his songs and sang them at the banquets we had while in the joint.

    19. In my book, THE MODEL PROJECT, I had gotten word on who had snatched LYFE’S tape, I immediately knew what he was thinking. I walked with him on the yard and persuaded him not to retaliate-“it would only prolong your time.”
