Lupe Fiasco appears to have some new music in the stash – and he’s given fans a sneak peek by sharing a preview of a new track.

On Tuesday (June 6), the Chicago native decided to bless fans by playing the new song in the midst of a Twitter conversation. After tweeting about how an Apple update would get him in the studio, a fan responded by saying: “Long as we get more music.”

Lupe had the perfect reply – a retweet with a video of the new tunes. Though he only previewed 30 seconds, the hard-hitting track includes a heavy violin presence and a catchy cadence.

Lupe Fiasco’s last release was in April, when he dropped a song in collaboration with Chicago-based artist SentRock, who painted a piece inspired by Lupe’s lyrical brilliance.

SentRock make a hella-cop drop, off top/ Pass the akhs to the lost flock fops, air fools/ On the opps, and flew, also look around/ Because down ain’t the only birds eye view/ Westside too, sky blue, Chi you Bible/ Put bands in our hands like a ‘I do’ bridal,” he raps in a triple-entendre.

SentRock (real name Joe Perez) is selling limited-edition autographed 24″x 30″ prints of his A Westside Bird’s Eye View painting for $400 on the Enstrumental website.

Even outside of the music world, Lupe continues to level up. In March, the Chicago rhymer was named a Saybrook Fellow at Yale University, marking the lauded lyricist’s latest honor in the world of higher education.

The 41-year-old referred to Yale as his “other favorite school” outside of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), where he was appointed a visiting professor last year.

“Proud to announce I’ve been chosen to be a Saybrook Fellow at my OTHER favorite school in the whole wide world outside of MIT…@Yale,” Lupe tweeted. “Shout to Tom Near for nominating me to a place where against all odds two Chicagoans found a home in the Ivy League.”

While it’s still unclear what the fellowship will specifically entail, Saybrook College’s website reads: “The Fellowship is intended to provide students and Fellows with opportunities for discussion in an atmosphere less formal than the classroom.

“They represent a considerable potential for informal discussions of your interests, academic or otherwise, but you must seek them out and make your interests known. You will find that they are eager to meet you.”
