Westchester, NY

The LOX have been honored with a once-in-a-lifetime accolade in their home state of New York.

On Saturday (December 16) the legendary Yonkers rap trio — comprised of Styles P, and Jadakiss and Sheek Louch — performed at the Westchester County Center.

The concert was to commemorate the 25th anniversary of their debut album Money, Power & Respect, as well as Hip Hop’s 50th birthday.

In the spirit of the countless Hip Hop 50 celebrations that have happened this year, The LOX were presented with a congressional proclamation by Congressman Jamaal Bowman during the show.

“It is an incredible honor as the Congressman for NY-16 to recognize the brilliant career of Yonkers own The LOX with a congressional proclamation,” wrote Bowman on Instagram alongside a video clip showing the rappers accepting their framed decrees.

“Hip Hop helped raise me and the artistry of the LOX was part of that upbringing. Shout out to Yonkers, Mount Vernon, New Rochelle, the rest of 914, and the Bronx for their contributions to Hip Hop and beyond!”

Congressman Bowman wasn’t the only special guest. The LOX’s concert also saw performances from fellow Yonkers legend Mary J. Blige, as well as Fabolous, Freeway, Young Gunz and Lil Cease.

The momentous occasion comes on the heels of Jadakiss revealing he had leveraged his street smarts to set up yet another business venture.

In a recent interview with the 85 South Show, the Kiss of Death MC explained how Hip Hop has served up some real gems when it comes to business success.

“You know, rap is a stepping stone,” he said. “Of course, when you’re young, you’re gonna blow some money, have some fun and do some reckless things. But if you’re able to have a career and be in it for a minute, you want to start graduating and doing some things, owning some stuff.

“We got six juice bars. Styles and his wife got the Farmacy For Life. You know, the supplements is doing well and then I got the Kiss Cafe coffee with my son and my dad.”

He continued: “The Hip Hop industry can teach you a lot if you just keep your head up, eyes and ears open about ownership. You go through so much stuff with clearances and things like that with the label that you should get to a point in your life where you want to own everything that your name is on or that you invest in. You want to try to be the sole owner or own a big percentage.”
