Nas may be the God’s Son, but that doesn’t mean he’s perfect. Like most emcees that’ve been in the game as long as him, the Queensbridge legend has had his fair share of misfires. Unfortunately for Nas, however, his musical fails have been pretty legendary. So to celebrate his 38th birthday, Complex decided to list Nasty Nas’s ten worst songs. From his utterly dull marriage ode to Kelis, to a party foul of a cut with Mary J. Blige and the Bravehearts, it’s the best list of the worst music from a legend. Still, how “Oochie Wally” didn’t make the cut is beyond us.

Yesterday marked the 15th anniversary of the passing of Tupac Shakur, and in the time since the west coast veteran has been gone, the Hip Hop game has changed considerably. Despite his absence, Pac’s legacy continues on, inspiring and instructing younger generations on how to make emotionally charged music. To commemorate his loss, Complex decided to celebrate the man’s artistry by taking a look back at the most significant moments in his life and career.

It’s been a heated discussion for close to a decade decade now, but fans continue to butt heads over Jay-Z’s best album: his 1996 debut Reasonable Doubt, or 2001’s The Blueprint. And with XXL celebrating the ten year anniversary of The Blueprint on the cover of their next issue, it looks like the debate isn’t going to end anytime soon. So Complex decided to try and nip the issue in the bud with a new list as to why The Blueprint is better than Reasonable Doubt. Take a look at the full article to see why.

oochie wally was dope fuck you DX
oochie wally was wack. But so is that list. Big Girl is dope. My Generation is a classic. Getting Married is my shit too. Fuck Complex.
I too thought Oochie Wally was dope.
oochie wally didn’t make the complex list though. they had me and you at # 3 off streets disciple. that was a dope joint and the flyest produced by the neptunes was not that bad. they should have put pretty much nastradamus on that, except for for last words…
plus Life We Chose, Project Windows, Come Get Me, Shoot Em Up, God Love Us
Nastradamus may have been Nas’ worst album in his catalog, but it definitely had its moments.
I agree, Blueprint was waaaaay doper than Reasonable Doubt. Just saying, aand FYI, In my lifetime vol 1 and Blueprint 2 are definitely the nastradamus jay z like albums…
So you been looking for me…..You are officially gay and failed at life….Please stick a fork in the socket!!!!!
Blueprint can’t touch Reasonable Doubt
so please tell me who has a wack verse on oochie wally thats all im saying nas sets up the song and everybody else just kills it
What do you blacks think about my article?
hahaha. this is pretty funny
You sir, are a comedian.
They have Who Killed It at number 1. Are they insane? That list is some bullshit. Fuck Complex.
blatant disrespect to have a list of his worst songs..
lmao, don’t be so sensitive, that’s just the truth.
ain’t no truth in that list. That list is some bullshit.
Complex is full of retarded writers..
Right when I haven’t heard a Nas album in a minute, ya’ll put up this bull. Trying to cast an ugly veil on a beautiful career. So here are my favorite five nas songs.
It Ain’t Hard to Tell
I Gave You Power
Represent
One Mic
No Ideas
And the verse from Verbal Intercourse
And I could probbaly rotate this whole list with all different songs five more times.
And some of his worst songs are better than some of these niggas careers. fuck article
@negativity Nas aint no god MC, the nigga is lame only album he had that he did his thing on was it is written after that before Jay-Z slap that nigga, all that nigga body of work is Gabages, i see your 5 songs son but take off those that was on it is written, tell me what hit songs you got before Jay-z wake this nigga up. LAME,he owe you son for buying all his wack ass album.
^^Idiot. Nas is one of the best to ever do it.
@ Skillzz: You’re weird. First, you say Nas did his thing on It Was Written, then you’re telling him to take off I Gave You Power off his list? Do you read your comments before posting?
Dead Presidents II, Feelin It, D’Evils, Can I Live >>>>>>>>>>>> The Blueprint.
Blueprint has always been overrated, The Black Album is much better.
Finally agree. I only have one song on my playlist from Blueprint – Izzo. That CD is just so commercial for me. Reasonable Doubt takes it… too easy. “Girls, Girls, Girls” oh yeah what a great song!
oochie wally was dope but cummin from Mr. Blackgirl Lost the frog son dissed his fans makin that degrading song..it shoulda been just a Braveheart song.
It originally was a Braveheart song with the 3 original members each spitting a verse. I think they added Nas later for the video to give them more exposure since they were unknowns at the time.
who the fuck writes this bullshit nas is a fuckin legend talkin’ bout 2 celebrate his bday they doin’ this shit! always hatin’ on esco… i bet if the nigga dies they goin’ b on up on my nigga’s dick! mutherfuck ’em all!!!!
Niggas need to stop, before Jay-Z give Nas life again by lighthing a fire under that niggas with the take over, that nigga nas didnt have Worst songs, he have Worst album, check it,do your home work, after it was Written, it was all down hill for Nas, so nigga need to stop acting like Nas is some god MC, that nigga is average and over rated.
i’m just going lol at your stupid ass commit. Cause it was very funny to me.
A list of Nas’s 10 worst songs? Really? You can make that for any emcee ever that’s been in the game for 20 years basically (94 illmatic, but dude was on Main Source and a few things all the way back to 91) and has as much material as he has.
10 Best Songs is harder, but here are mine:
*Memory Lane
*Halftime
*NY State of Mind
*It Ain’t Hard to Tell
*One Love
*Blaze a 50
*Take it in Blood (It was Written)
*2nd Childhood
*If I ruled the World (best song by him that made the radio, followed by One Mic)
*I Gave you Power
Now in terms of Reasonable Doubt vs Blueprint? It’s not close as Reasonable doubt is Jay’s only CLASSIC album imo….Black album is his 2nd best and Blueprint is probably his 3rd best. How can that be considered his best when Em probably has the illest verses on there? Always thought Blueprint was overrated.
Reasonable doubt is CLASSIC, everything else jay did was either underwhelming or solid (Black Album and Reasonable Doubt is all i really play by him, along w/ a few Blueprint tracks)
Id replace It Aint hard to tell with Life We Chose and Blaze a 50 with The Message.
A top 10 worst song list on Godson’s birthday? That is how you celebrate the birthday of an MC who arguably has the best discography of any rap artist? EAT A DICK DX. This completely epitomizes the absurb scrutiny that Nas faces. Put any other artist under a microscope and you will find some weak tracks, especially one with 20+ years running. Notice how people completely ignore the weed plates Jay dropped with Vol. 1 [I know what girls like anyone?], Vol. 3 [remember the Mariah carey track?], Blueprint 2, Kingdom Come, and BP3 [Young Forever is WORSE THAN ANY SONG ON THIS LAST BTW]. But with Nas, people focus on I am, Nastradamus, oochie wally, and Streets Disciple like they are the most god awful pieces of shit in the history of the game. Nevermind classics like Illmatic/Stillmatic/It was Written/Lost Tapes. And whats with so much hate for ‘gettin married’ and Streets Disciple? This dude puts himself out there, gives you intimate details of his personal life and family and you shit on him for it? Meanwhile Jay raps about coke, cash, and basquiats like he has since 96 and he constantly gets a pass for double-entendre bullshit that has to be ‘decoded’. Please explain this to me.
As far as Jay, Blueprint is maybe the best produced album in the history of hip hop. Dude got like 5 ye tracks, 5 just blaze tracks, and a timbo track. The beats CARRY THAT CD… Jay’s flow is definitely nice but Jigga that N**** and IZZO are so lame and commercial… completely jeopardizes the allegedly ‘classic’ status of that Cd… RD is definitely better, even though Jay was jackin Nas’ style throughout… but his flow on friend or foe is downright lazy and ain’t no n**** is pretty weak [Jigga started to flow like us but hit with aint no n****]
BOTTOM LINE; Nas has the best hip hop album ever with Illmatic… hot beats, lyrics 100% on point, not a single weak track… if you use THAT as the definition of classic then Jay and every other artist EVER don’t have a single classic to their names
Happy Birthday Esco [even though its Sep 14]
Vol. 1 is actually legit. If you take out I Know What Girls Like and Always Be My Sunshine, then you pretty much got yourself a classic right there. True, Jay is for the most part one-dimensional as far as content, but I, for one, happen to enjoy his metaphors and double-entendres. To each his own, I guess.
But I definitely agree that Nas has a stronger discography. And I feel you on Street’s Disciple. That album was truly underrated. Disc 1 was great by itself, and I only skip like two songs on disc 2. But people love to complain about the production for some reason, which I found nothing wrong with. The beats went perfect with Nas’ concepts and content. And Illmatic is a true undisputed classic for sure.
ye the word classic is thrown about too much but cuban linx 1 sits up there next to illmatic
WOW THEY PUT NASTRADAMUS AS ONE OF HIS WORST SONGS?? THAT JOINT WAS TOUGH, THE ALBUM MIGHT HAVE SUCKED BUT THAT SONG WAS FIRE. IF THATS ONE OF NAS’S WORST SONGS THEN HES PRETTY DAMN GOOD!
damn, 4 of the 10 worst Nas songs were produced by L.E.S. lol. but anyways, of all the 365 1/4 days we have a year, how is Complex gonna put out this top 10 list during one of those days: Nas’ b-day??? smh
and about Jay-Z’s Reasonable Doubt and The Blueprint, i can honestly say that the two are equally good, so it’s a little hard to say which one is the best. Reasonable Doubt had a lot of ill beats and was very street, while The Blueprint had a mainstream appeal, yet remained very street as well, along with being very soulful and vulnerable. so idk. to me, they’re both classics. the best two (and almost the only two) albums Jay-Z ever released. Vols. 1 and 2 were alright, but every other album was pretty wack
Only half of the Nas’ worst songs list are songs that I liked (Getting Married, My Generation, Nastradamus, Me & You, Who Killed It). Big Girl is okay, not a big fan of it. You Owe Me and Firm Biz are awful. And the other two I haven’t heard.
I can see why Getting Married was on the list though. But before all the drama between him and Kelis, Nas was expressing his personal feelings about marriage, something that most rappers are scared to do.
My Generation may have been one of the more lackluster songs off of DR if you look at the album as a whole, but it is still a great song with a powerful message, reminiscent of I Can. Not a Wayne fan either, but his verse was pretty solid on there.
Nastradamus was just a good song overall. The beat and verses were solid. Only the hook needed some work.
Me & You is another personal track towards his daughter. Sure, Nas may not have the best singing voice, but at least it’s not atrocious and sounding like nails on a chalkboard. *cough*Lil Wayne*cough*
But having Who Killed It at number one really surprised me. How was that his worst song? I thought that song was creative and had a great story behind it. The beat was dark and menacing, and Nas’ “awful Edward G. Robinson voice” actually complemented the beat well, and it worked. One of my favorites off of HHID.
And for Reasonable Doubt vs. Blueprint, it’s RD all day. Blueprint’s a great album, but RD is flawless. Every song on that album had great production. Jay laid down his most honest verses on there, and his flow was top notch. Definitely his best album to date.
Reasonable Doubt is Jay’s best It’s full of classics. Blueprint can’t touch it, I’d put it 3rd best behind In My Lifetime Vol.1
Nas is the greatest to ever do it.
Smart Man you are! I always tell people…when u listen to The Blueprint, just think about how Jigga That Nigga, Hola Hovito & even H to the Izzo are dope songs, yet he really is talking about a fucking thing on these 3 songs. Just bragga, blah blah blah…Outside of Jay’s 1st 2 LP’s, all his albums are like that
i wish i knew where the complex magazine office was located so i could set it on fire. useless lazy ass writers that dont deserve a job.always coming up with ridiculou lists shit!!
I guess being born in the 90’s makes me not appreciate Reasonable doubt as much but I’d have to give the edge to Blueprint(mainly cuz the Eminem collab alone lol)..Dat being said tho, my fav Jay-Z albulm of all time is the Black Albulm. The beats, the PSA jus everything was ill
Fuck Complex, I agreed with the whole list right up until who killed it.
