LL COOL J has given Chuck D his flowers via social media after the legendary MC discussed his stance on being included on any greatest rapper list.

“You have one of the greatest if not ‘the’ greatest voice in HipHop history,” LL COOL J said on Twitter on Tuesday (March 7). “Song writing on another level!!!!! What’s touching Terror dome ?? You’re a [goat emoji] MC CHUCK D!!!”

Chuck D, who’s ranked No. 34 on Billboard’s recent list of the Top 50 Rappers of All Time, made sure to acknowledge his other rap comrades in his original tweet that LL COOL J responded to.

“Know This. The reason I don’t get shook by NOT being on any GREATEST rapper lists is simple. Once i see one of my PEer group on it , im good,” the Public Enemy group member said. “Thats how my fraternity rolls. #OGseniorCircuit.”

Check out both tweets below:

Chuck D previously came to the defense of Melle Mel, who’s been highly critical of the controversial list, particularly when it comes to Kendrick Lamar and Eminem.

“Understand Melle Mel was so dominant over the rest of the pack in the first 5 years of records its hard to comprehend for born after MC folk,” Chuck D said. “Its why i call him Wilt Chamberlain and Wilt had a crate of critiques for the rappers after him including ME. Just Let Mel be Wilt lol.”

In a recent interview with The Art of Dialogue, the 61-year-old Hip Hop legend told host Mighty Bolton that Kendrick Lamar is a quality rapper, but his songs “don’t translate into the street part of Hip Hop.”

“I don’t know what records he made like that,” he said. “I might know one or two of them, but I don’t think you even hear Kendrick in the club like that.”

Melle Mel also said nobody wants to rap like the Compton superstar or Eminem, who he believes only ranks as high as he does on the list because of the color of his skin.

“Obviously he’s a capable rapper,” Melle Mel began. “If you was talking about sales, he’s sold more than everybody. If you were talking about rhyme style, okay he got a rhyme style. But he’s white. He’s white!

“So now if Eminem was another n-gga like all the rest of us, would he be Top 5 on that list when a n-gga that could rhyme just as good as him is [number] 35? That had records and all that? He’s 35. He’s white.”
