Lizzo has announced she’s hit pause on her musical pursuits, citing a sense of unwelcomeness.

On Friday (March 29th), “About Damn Time” hitmaker shared a candid message on Instagram, opening up about the personal struggles she’s faced. These challenges, she said, have led her to make the difficult decision to take a step back from the music industry.

“I’m getting tired of putting up with getting dragged by everyone in my life and on the internet,” she begins, in the statement.

“All I want is to make music and make people happy and help the world be a little better than how I found it. But I’m starting to feel like the world doesn’t want me in it.

“I’m constantly up against lies being told about me for clout & views … being the butt of the joke every single time because of how I look … my character being picked apart by people who don’t know me and disrespecting my name.”

Signing off, she declared, “I didn’t sign up for this shit – I QUIT.”

“You’re special. In case nobody made you believe, you’re special… Sometimes we need to be our own cheerleaders, and if none of these comments help I hope your own words will,” another comment reads.

The news comes amid Lizzo’s appearance at a high-profile fundraiser for Joe Biden, as well as ongoing fallout stemming from the sexual harassment lawsuit brought against her by her former backup dancers, which has temporarily been put on pause.

Court documents obtained by Billboard reveal that as of March 7, Judge Mark Epstein ordered the case to be stayed, while Lizzo’s attorneys appealed a ruling that denied its dismissal

Epstein rejected Lizzo’s motion to dismiss, citing a violation of California’s anti-SLAPP (Strategic Lawsuit Against Public Participation) laws. These laws are designed to prevent individuals and corporations from filing baseless lawsuits aimed at silencing free speech

It is expected to take several months for the appeals process to conclude.

Early March, Epstein denied the singer’s motion to throw out her sexual harassment lawsuit filed by three of her former backup dancers Arianna Davis, Crystal Williams, and Noelle Rodriguez.

It’s important to note that while certain accusations have been dismissed — such as claims that Lizzo fat-shamed one of her dancers — the case as a whole will go to trial.

“It is dangerous for the court to weigh in, ham-fisted, into constitutionally protected activity,” the judge wrote. “But it is equally dangerous to turn a blind eye to allegations of discrimination or other forms of misconduct merely because they take place in a speech-related environment,” Epstein wrote in his decision.
