Lizzo Blasts ‘Delusional’ Celebrity Beauty Standards

Lizzo is tired of the beauty standards expected of celebrities and she refuses to allow anyone else to dictate how comfortable she should feel in her own skin.

In an Instagram post on Friday (January 6), the bikini-clad “Rumors” singer clapped back at all of the criticism she constantly faces over her body. While calling attention to how contradictory the comments are, Lizzo reminded critics that she’s here to make art – not fit into whatever expectations people have for her shape.

“The discourse around bodies is officially tired. The discourse around bodies is tired!” she began. “I have seen comments go from, ‘Oh my gosh, I liked you when you were thick! Why’d you lose weight? To, ‘Oh my gosh, why’d you get a BBL? I liked your body before.’ To, ‘Oh my gosh, you’re so big. Ew. You need to lose weight – but for your health!’ To, ‘Oh my gosh, you’re so little. You need to get ass or titties or something!’ To, ‘Oh my gosh, why did she get this work done? It’s just too much work!’

“Are we okay? Do you see the delusion?” Lizzo continued. “Do we realize that artists are not here to fit into your beauty standards? Artists are here to make art! And this body is art! And I’ma do whatever I want with this body. I wish that comments costed y’all money so we could see how much time we are fucking wasting on the wrong thing. Can we leave that shit back there please?”

Fans on social media aren’t the only ones who have had something to say about Lizzo’s body. Even Kanye West added his two cents, mentioning the singer while talking about comments on social media in an October interview with Fox News.

“When Lizzo loses 10 pounds and announces it, the bots… on Instagram, they attack her for losing weight, because the media wants to put out a perception that being overweight is the new goal,” Ye said. ‘When it’s actually unhealthy.”

In response, Lizzo addressed him on stage during a concert shortly afterward. “I feel like everybody in America got my muthafuckin’ name in their muthafuckin’ mouth for no muthafuckin’ reason,” Lizzo said to a Toronto crowd.

“I’m minding my fat Black beautiful business,” and then asked the audience, “Can I stay here? Who can I marry for that dual citizenship?”

Comedian Aries Spears also made unprovoked comments, comparing Lizzo to the “shit emoji.” Her fans immediately came to the singer’s defense, dragging Spears in his comments for days.

    1. Calling people delusional over a basic truth of what me are attracted to, and what’s healthy? I’d laugh if couldn’t keep myself from being sick seeing her in a bikini. Women, stop lying to each other. Call this type of shit out. She’s delusional if she thinks she will get anyone who will not just sleep with her, and take her seriously. Even more delusional if she thinks she will live a long healthy life. Put down the hoagies and pick up the phone to call Jenny Craig.

    2. I swear women live in an alternate reality. It’s like a Disney movie written by them… starring them and directed by them. In this movie they are the perfect character. They can be fat..ugly bad personality and still be a 10. They also are not responsible for anything they put in their mouth…or for what comes out of it. It’s pure delusion…oh and you also can’t criticise in any way.

      1. You ain’t lied yet. When they do or say something crazy it’s; “well, I’m a (insert zodiac sign) who is also (insert elemental sign).” Throw in the “I’m crazy” trope for good measure. All to deflect accountability, and reward bad behavior. I’ve only recently found out about the elemental shit cause I’ve had that kind of conversation. The narcissism is real.

    3. “Lizzo reminded critics that she’s here to make art”…then JUST make art Lizzo. Jill Scott has no problem doing that, so you shouldn’t either. Can’t have your cake and eat it too…no pun intended.

    4. She has a beautiful face but her body is disgusting to watch. Sorry but the little speech she made about beauty standards is off track and muddled. Having a healthy life style and paying attention to what you eat is not wrong. If she wants to keep eating burgers and pizzas and looking like a tanker, that’s her issue. But please don’t try to tell young girls that being fat and overweight is just a matter of perspective. Fat fuck!

    5. this western world is going to go boom by 2030 . these women think they have it all when in actuality theres gunna be alot of 40 50 year old single karens running around yelling why i can find a man. lizzo is the definition of disgusting. heffer ass

    6. “Beauty standards” that make sense to the overwhelming majority of both men and women most often revolve around a healthy diet and BMI. Aka, not being over or under weight for your age and height. Not eating more calories than you’re body can burn in a day. Not having a body type that will lead to early death, and lower our life expectancy. She is gross. Her body is gross. She doesn’t respect her body, and will die young. When she does die younger than she should, it will be a good lesson to the “body positivity” idiots who think encouraging the deadly behavior is fine. It’s not. She WILL DIE YOUNG.
