Lil Yachty Blames ‘Imitation’ & ‘Low-Quality Music’ For ‘Terrible’ State of Hip Hop

Lil Yachty has announced that he is not a fan of the way things are in Hip Hop today. He went far enough to claim that things are just “terrible.”

“Hip-hop is in a terrible place,” Yachty said at Rolling Stone‘s Musicians on Musicians event in Brooklyn, New York (via Complex) on Friday (November 10). “The state of hip-hop right now is a lot of imitation. It’s a lot of quick, low-quality music being put out.”

He continued: “It’s a lot less risk-taking, it’s a lot less originality. People are too safe now. Everyone is so safe. I rather take the risk than take the L.”

But despite his complaints about the sorry state of Hip Hop affairs, Lil Boat took the time to show love to at least one rapper.

“I love JID,” he said. “JID is such a beautiful person. He has the spirit of like a real Atlanta Negro and he’s such a good, kind person and he just always embraced me with open arms so I got nothing but respect for JID. I never heard a bad verse from JID ever.”

While Lil Yachty wasn’t afraid to show some love to JID, he recently came under fire from Soulja Boy, who roasted the “Flex Up” rapper after he claimed that he and Post Malone were the first rappers to stream on Twitch back in 2017.

“I ain’t gon’ even cap,” Soulja Boy began in his tirade. “Lil Yachty, sit yo bitch-ass down, n-gga. Drake, you and Lil Yachty getting on my muthafucking nerves. Fuck wrong with y’all pussy-ass n-ggas?

“Lil Yachty, you is a bitch n-gga. Fruity-ass n-gga. Painting yo muthafucking toe nails and shit. Bitch, you wasn’t the first n-gga to do shit. Lil bitch-ass, pussy-ass, punk-ass, Oreo-looking ass, fuck-ass n-gga.”

Soulja continued to attack Boat by saying: “I’m getting tired of y’all fuck n-ggas. Lil bitch-ass n-gga. Lil Black-ass n-gga … Lil Yachty, sit your lil’ pussy-ass ass down. Bitch-ass n-gga. You wasn’t the first n-gga to do shit. I’m getting tired of y’all pussy ass n-ggas, man.”

Lil Yachty claimed that joining the service in 2017 made him the first rapper on Twitch. According to SocialBlade, Soulja Boy launched his Twitch account in December 2016.

    1. Yachty too slow to realize hes a large part of that trash heap hes talking about. Real hip hop has been dead for many years now and has showed no signs of ever coming back.

    2. Wait what? Whoever is enabling this clown stop ASAP. He is a honda civid running on 2 cylinders in a game with twin turbo v12s talking about quality? He’s worse than bone crusher and that’s saying a lot. That man couldn’t find the flow and sound good doing it on a d3cent beat if his life dependent on it.

    3. He is and was part of problem. Also the fact that some people still lapping it up like a cat drinks milk. It’s often low quality ignorant crap. I ain’t downloaded anything for over 2 years now. You have to hunt for the good shit which is sad. It seems like the music reflects the culture.

    4. Stop calling it Hip-Hop. Don’t even desecrate the name like that. That’s like saying Post Malone is bluesman, or like saying KSI is a boxer. Just call it rap. The term HipHop has cultural significance that is not applicable with this stuff. Lumping it all in the same category is lazy. Chuck D and Lil Yachty are not a part of the same movement or music genre.
