Lil Wayne's Super Bowl Halftime Show Hopes Get Boost From Deion Sanders

Lil Wayne has his sights set on headlining the 2025 Super Bowl, and former NFL star Deion Sanders has given him his support.

The two-time Super Bowl champion was a guest on Weezy’s Young Money Radio ahead of this year’s game, which took place in Las Vegas on Sunday (February 11), and spoke about who he wants to perform at next year’s halftime show.

Considering Super Bowl LIX is being held in Wayne’s hometown of New Orleans, there’s only one person Sanders wants to see grace the stage.

“I’m already into next year, into New Orleans, and I’m petitioning right now for this young artist — he’s dope. He has to be the halftime performer,” he said while addressing the Young Money hitmaker.

“He’s a bad boy. They may have to give him more time than time allotted ’cause he has so many hits. I know Roger [Goodell, commissioner of the NFL]! I’m gon’ put a phone call into that right now.”

Lil Wayne added: “And you know, JAY-Z got a lot to do with that too. I know him so I’ma talk to him as well. Aw man, we gon’ get this done.”

Lil Wayne put his Super Bowl dreams in the air in December and explained why headlining the halftime show would mean so much to him.

“Just as bad as I wanted to see my name at the top of that list when I was whatever age it was and I would bust into the office and get that Billboard magazine,” he told Bleacher Report‘s Taylor Rooks.

“Just as an artist, you know, ’cause this has nothing to do with the sport. As an artist, this is an achievement. This has nothing to do with the sport — that’s so crazy. I don’t care what teams are playing, what city it’s in. ‘You performed for the what?!’ Like, what? Oh man, so that right there is an achievement.”

Wayne revealed the Super Bowl is still on his bucket list despite having already enjoyed big moments at the Grammys and his Lil Weezyana Fest.

“Thank God I’ve been on the Grammy stage, and my name has been called, and I’ve won. And I’ve performed at the Grammys and that’s amazing,” he continued.

“But I know for a fact that when I do the Lil Weezyana Fest, there’s like a trillion people out there, and being in front of my city and seeing that many people is amazing. So that right there is amazing.”

He continued: “So to know that a Super Bowl would be… what?! Going to the Super Bowl and watching the halftime show and wishing, when you see the artist, you be like, ‘They could’ve sung the song that I was featured on!’ I’m featured on everybody’s song — you could’ve brought me out!”

This year’s Super Bowl halftime show was headlined by Usher, who performed a medley of hits alongside special guests such as Ludacris, Alicia Keys, Lil Jon and Jermaine Dupri.

The performance drew more viewers than Dr. Dre and Rihanna‘s halftime shows, while the Super Bowl itself was the most watched ever with an audience of 123.4 million.
