Lil Uzi Vert has clarified that fans should not take a Satan-referencing line in an unreleased song too literally and claimed that he doesn’t even believe in the devil.

The controversy began after he debuted several new songs at Rolling Loud California, including one that contained lyrics about converting his City Girl girlfriend JT to Satanism. “I make a City Girl believe in Satan,” he rapped.

TMZcaught up with Lil Uzi in Beverly Hills to get insight into his upcoming Pink Tape project, which he promised to drop soon. During the quick convo, he was asked the meaning behind the controversial line, and the Philly rap star made it clear that he’s not cozying up to Satan.

Lil Uzi said he wasn’t referring to being involved in satanic worship but that the line was a metaphor and not to be taken too seriously. “Basically, I make a girl do whatever I say so,” he said.

Later in the clip, when the reporter asked how JT felt about the lyric, he noted that “she really didn’t think much of it.” He also revealed that she was in the studio when he created the song. “She knows what I really mean,” Uzi said.

The “Just Wanna Rock” rapper also offered his thoughts regarding the backlash he received and said he “doesn’t pay attention” to the people that took issue with his lyric. “I just say what I want in my songs. It’s like my freedom of speech,” he said.

Despite growing up in a religious household, Lil Uzi said that after becoming an adult and gaining more life experience, he’s comfortable with himself and the music he makes and has no problem with saying what he wants. However, Uzi did note that while he didn’t initially mean to offend people, “if they don’t like it, they have the option to turn it off.”

One of the offended folks included former G-Unit member Tony Yayo. TMZ chatted with the rapper last week to get his thoughts on Uzi’s interesting choice of lyrics, and the former G-Unit soldier wasted no time pledging his allegiance to the man upstairs.

“I believe in God. I don’t know about that stuff, man. That’s crazy,” Yayo said before he was asked if Uzi had taken things too far with his lyric. “Yeah, that one was a little too crazy for me.”

He added: “I believe in God. I’m very religious, came up in the church, so anything that has to do with Satan, I can’t rock with.”

The reporter then asked Yayo if he thinks Lil Uzi Vert could be a member of the Illuminati, and he laughed off the question by saying: “I don’t know.”
