Lil Jon has been compared to André 3000 over the unorthodox direction of his new album.

TMZ reported on Monday (February 5) that the crunk legend is set to release a guided meditation album on February 16, marking his first full-length offering since 2010.

While it marks a drastic new direction for the “Get Low” hitmaker, the outlet claimed that the 10-song album is “truthful” to Jon’s current life as he has embarked on a health and wellness journey in recent years.

News of the project caught fans by surprise, with some likening a Lil Jon guided meditation album to André 3000’s New Blue Sun, which found the OutKast luminary swapping the bars for ambient flute instrumentals.

While it remains to be seen whether there’ll be any substantial similarities between the two releases, Lil Jon is not the first Hip Hop star to move into the meditation space.

Madlib previously curated a “Focus” playlist for the mindfulness app Headspace, which is for meditation users and counts John Legend among its executives.

Singer Moses Sumney has also gotten into business with Calm Music to make records for their meditation app.

“I’ve been making music for a few years that is just kind of zone-out music, so I was really excited to do something with Calm and do it in a way that was weird, and predominantly improvised,” Sumney told Vogue, adding that his 31-minute song “Transfigurations” was designed for “relaxation, sleep, meditation — essentially whichever tickles the fancy of the listener.”

While Lil Jon has been relatively quiet on the music release front in recent years, theproducer has been busy in the court room having threatened to sue Live Nation in 2023 over the Lovers & Friends Festival.

The company staged a second iteration of the festival without his involvement, leading Jon to make it clear that he wanted compensating for the use of the title of his 2004 single in the event’s name.

Jon headlined the first version of the festival in 2022 alongside Usher and Ludacris but was left off the bill the following year when the likes of 50 Cent, Chris Brown, Dipset and Missy Elliott performed in addition to a returning Usher.

Jon is one of a number of special guests rumored to be appearing alongside Usher when he takes to the stage for the Super Bowl halftime show this Sunday (February 11).
