Lil Durk has admitted that J. Cole “smoked” him on his new single “All My Life” that dropped on Friday (May 12), something the Chicago rapper says “barely happens” to him.

The OTF frontman spoke about the new collaboration in an interview with Complex at his release party on Thursday (May 11), and admitted that Cole bodied him on his own song.

“He smoked my ass on that one, for one — barely,” Smurk said when asked about his experience working with the Dreamville don. “That barely happens. But shout out to J. Cole, shout out to [Dr.] Luke, we made it happen.”

Produced by pop hitmaker Dr. Luke, “All My Life” serves as the lead single from Lil Durk’s upcoming album Almost Healed, which is set to drop on May 26. It also marks the first joint effort from Durk and Cole.

Durk also spoke about “All My Life” in a separate interview with Apple Music, and said the song came about because he was feeling “moody” and knew J. Cole would be the perfect fit.

“Whatever mood I’m in, I just go to the studio and just make the music,” he said. “I just feel like a positive vibe went up with Dr. Luke, you know what I’m saying? That’s the first song he played and I just felt it and I’m like, ‘Man, I want J. Cole on this.'”

He continued: “And I made it happen. I’ve been talking to him, checking up on him, just seeing how you doing. You wait for the right moment for him to ask to be on the song. The song be big.

“I just wanted to be like, ‘I want J. Cole on the song.’ So when we do the song, the first person popped in my head, I’m like, ‘I got to get J. Cole on this.'”

In an Instagram post on Friday, Smurkio revealed the cover art for Almost Healed, as well as its release date and new title. It was originally going to be called The Voice 2.0.

“Almost healed the album may26th ahhhhh haaaaaaaaaa [black heart emoji],” he wrote in the caption.

“At first it was The Voice 2.0 and I just figured that going through a lot of stuff and people thinking they know me, thinking I’m going through a lot of that that I wasn’t going through and I was just having a basic conversation…[and] I’m like, ‘Man, I’m almost healed for me just to come back outside,” he said.

“You could be almost healed from any situation which from a broken heart, a broken arm, a broken leg, anything. You know what I’m saying? So that name alone, it just ring bells. It’s self-explanatory. It’s just like, everything you’ve been through is you can see it, you can feel it, you can hear it.”
