Lil Dicky has made some pretty bold statements about his rapping ability, claiming some of the greatest Hip Hop minds of our generation have lauded his accomplishments.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter on Wednesday (April 12), the rapper-turned-actor claimed that, despite the pushback he gets from some rap fans, he gets some pretty major cosigns from some of the best in the industry.
“I feel like I’m the comedic voice of my generation,” he said to the outlet. “I’m not like, ‘Oh, I’m the fucking best rapper alive,’ or ‘I’m the funniest guy in the world.’”
He then was dismissive of those who were critical of his career, calling them “elitist, hipster journalists who thought that it was their place to speak on behalf of hip-hop, whereas I’m meeting the all-time great rappers and they’re telling me, like, man, I’m a rapper’s rapper.”
The Dave star, however, didn’t identify the rappers who allegedly paid him such high praise.
Later on in the interview, Lil Dicky also addressed the controversy surrounding his collaboration with Chris Brown.
Despite the blowback he received from fans and critics alike, the rapper (real name Dave Burd) stood by his decision to perform with the controversial star, because it led to his collaboration with Justin Bieber.
“I love that song. I still love that song. It went to No. 1 in multiple nations, and without that song, I don’t know that I could have made [a charity single] like ‘Earth,’ where I raised, like, $3 million [to fight against climate change],” he told THR.
According to the Pennsylvania native, he does not take the criticism personally since he knows that his heart is “good.”
He continued: “I know that my heart is good. I really do. I don’t lose sleep at night about my heart. And you can never be perfect, and sometimes I’ll still be dumb and unaware, but I really do care so much about doing the right thing.”
The rapper added: “And listen, I get why someone wouldn’t like a Lil Dicky song, but I’d never be ok with someone being like, ‘That guy’s an asshole,’ or ‘That guy’s a piece of sh*t.’ I’ve never had that experience as Dave Burd, the man, so for my art to cause that reaction, my God, it really hurts me.”
Having that Jewish money and connects must be nice. But do you. Making a mockery of what used to be the voice of the streets agony and pain, triumph and so forth…Only elitists and hipsters…the same people you’re dissing, are your supporters. Way to reverse the narrative.
