LeBron James has saluted Ice Cube in a reflective Instagram post while celebrating passing Kareem Abdul-Jabbar for the NBA’s all-time scoring record.

James broke the record last week thanks to a 38-point game against the Oklahoma City Thunder, but with the historic accolade just starting to set in, he paid homage to the West Coast icon while quoting his 1993 classic “It Was A Good Day” lyrics on Tuesday (February 14).

“Last week messed around and got a triple….. I mean a Scoring Record! Man what!!! This is still not hitting me yet. So surreal!! Wow wow wow man,” he wrote.

“To all my fans who captured that moment there inside Crypto Arena that night( YOU’RE AMAZING & THANK YOU) and to all my fans all over the United States and The World( YOU’RE AMAZING & THANK YOU). The journey continues!”

Plenty of King James’ celebrity friends flooded the post’s comment section with praise including Jamie Foxx, NFL star Stefon Diggs and Rich The Kid, who wrote: “The greatest you inspire me everyday to go harder goat.”

James broke Kareem’s points record with a signature fadeaway jumper in the third quarter of February 7th’s match-up in front of the Crypto.com Arena home crowd. Unfortunately for the Lakers, Bron’s 38 points wasn’t enough to secure a win as they lost 133-129 to the OKC Thunder.

“From the time you went to the league and you had the doubters and the naysayers and the people that think you wouldn’t take it this far, you proved them wrong, dawg.”

The 38-year-old has been ailing from a bad foot and has missed every game since breaking the record. However, Lakers head coach Darvin Ham said he expects to see James in the lineup for Wednesday night’s (February 15) final contest before the All-Star break against the New Orleans Pelicans.
