Latto has admitted that the jokes people make about her looking old often leave her feeling insecure about her looks.
In an interview with Chloë Bailey for Latto’s new 777 radio show with Apple Music, the Atlanta rapper spoke about her issues with the internet and said sometimes the negative comments would get to her.
“So now my whole thing is, I’m gonna say this without saying no names but I be like, ‘No, I look like [this],’ ‘No, I look like a white woman,” Latto said after noting the negative comments at the 13-minute mark. “And it’s all because of social media though. I can’t say all but it heightens your insecurities.”
“And makes up new ones!” Chloë chimed in.
“And makes up new ones, cause I never thought I looked old until I read it on the internet,” Latto added.
Besides the trolls, Nicki Minaj criticized Latto for looking old during their heated Twitter spat last year.
Latto and Nicki had exchanged words on Twitter last October after the latter scolded the 2023 Grammy Awards for placing her “Super Freaky Girl” single in the category of Best Pop Solo Performance rather than in any rap category.
“I have no prob being moved out the RAP category as long as we r ALL being treated FAIRLY, If [‘Super Freaky Girl’] has [2 billion views] moved out RAP then so does Big Energy,” the Queen rapper tweeted, referring to Latto’s Billboard-topping single.
“ANY1 who says diff is simply a Nicki hater or a troll. I’d actually LUV 2 c a more street record win- male OR female! IJS rightIsRight.”
Latto ultimately responded by tweeting: “Damn I can’t win for losing… all these awards/noms I can’t even celebrate,” which led to the two taking personal shots at each other.
The pair then started trading more personal back-and-forth jabs, with Latto criticizing the Pinkprint rapper for being “older than my mom.”
“Age shaming when you look like YOU the one pushing 40,” Nicki replied at one point. “Age shaming but was BEGGING for a feature. Imagine what dem genes gon do in 10 years[.] Oh so you in your 20’s. Oh ok then. At least it match your album sales. You sold 20K right? Mad u flopped. That’s why u rlly mad.
“Who wanna hear the reference tracks scratch off ghost writers rapping her bars????? she used me & the Barbz in every interview until that album sold double wood[.] now she wiping that spray tan off & being a Karen. They black when it’s beneficial chi.”
Chloë Bailey stopped by Latto’s show after dropping her debut album, In Pieces, on Friday (March 31). Last week, she unveiled the tracklist for her forthcoming album, which includes features from a few industry heavyweights, like Future and Missy Elliot.
