With the April release of their sample-driven project Off The Track Vol. III: Brooklyn, it’s safe to say that veteran deejays/producers Kon and Amir know a thing or two about crate digging. As such, the duo recently teamed up with Complex.com to outline the 50 greatest samples in Hip Hop history from their perspective.
Records that made the cut include Kool and the Gang’s “Chocolate Buttermilk,” James Brown’s “Funky President,” and The Ohio Player’s “Funky Worm.” To view the entire list, click here. Kon and Amir’s Off The Track Vol. III: Brooklyn is out now on Rapster/BBE Records.
Masta Ace – “Beautiful” has an amazing sample; probably my favorite sample ever. It didn’t even make Kon & Amir’s top 50 list though.
it doesn’t matter who the producer is look at a milli sample, nothing but cuz lil wayne! is spitting on it it’s da beat of da decade
lil wayne! is da greatest of all da time fuck haters
lol…
wayne sucks balls, the beat made that song hot
the beat is wat was so good not wayne hes a lil homo fake wanna be gansta and rockstar faker
looooooooool why is every1 on a hype with “handdddyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy” can’t u tell he’s just here 2 annoy bloggers he don’t even know. I personally find it hilarious.
now on the subject I think that u need 2 include the entirety of “It Takes A Nation Of Millions To Hold Us Back”, “Paul’s Boutique” & 3 Feet High & Rising” because those albums were sampledelic statements as well as Gang Starr’s back catalogue. my personal favorite use of a sample was Masta Ace’s classic “Da Grind”.
Handyyyy strikes again….hahaha
RFLMAO@ EVERY SINGLE ONE OF YOU THAT THINKS THAT THE “A MILLI BEAT” IS HOT! AND FOR YOUR INFORMATION IT WASN’T SAMPLED! IF ANYTHING THAT LAZY ASS VOICE THAT SAYS “A MILLI” THROUGH OUT THE WHOLE BEAT WAS SAMPLED AND THAT’S IT. A 2 YEAR OLD COULD’VE MADE THAT BEAT.
Shook Ones- mystery piano sample
All of Dre’s funkadelic samples

The only thing about Kanye is…he sampled HIT/popular records. That’s what made the songs instantly recognized! But the stuff he did for Common was DEF dope. I def agree with the Common stuff.
i strongly strongly disagree with that list of 50
