Khalil & Rascalz Situation Update

A few weeks ago HHDX reported the situation on Khalil, Keith Murray and the Rascalz. There was not much known about the situation other than both Keith Murray and the Rascalz were using the same beat which was made by Khalil. Thanks to hiphopsite.com, we now have some more info on the situation.

The song in question is “Movie Star” and it is on the Rascalz new album. Interestingly, the production credit goes to Red-1 and Kemo, not Khalil. The Los Angeles based producer has not been available for comment yet but a source close to him told the following to hiphopsite:

“First off the Raskals did pay DJ Khalil a front-end for the track ‘Movie Star” a few years ago. Khalil reached out to the Rascalz several times on the status of the track as it was basically on hold. They (The Rascalz) told Khalil they would have him come to Canada to record the track and the whole 9… That never happened. So Def Jam bought the track, did paperwork and Khalil actually went into the studio to record the track with Keith Murray. To this day, Khalil has never been into a studio with the Rascalz. They have a 2-track of the record! They took the beat off the track CD, looped it in pro-tools & recorded the record for dolo. It’s indeed a sad situation but the Rascalz sat on a track for two-years before contacting Khalil or his Attorney to complete paperwork for the track. Khalil offered them another beat but since Keith Murray & Def Jam wanted the track they (The Rascalz) want to proceed on their end. Also in an attempt to smooth over the mishap, Keith Murray offered to do a song with the Raskals which they declined.”
