Kendrick Lamar’s “i” To Serve As NBA Soundtrack This Season

The National Basketball Association (NBA) has tapped Kendrick Lamar’s newly-released single, “i” to serve as the soundtrack to the upcoming 2014-15 season.

According to AllHipHop.com, K-Dot’s record, which samples The Isley Brothers’ “Who’s That Lady,” will be featured in promotional videos for the season.

In addition to appearances from NBA ballers Carmelo Anthony, James Harden, LeBron James, and Dirk Nowitzki, Kendrick also appears in one of the newest promotional videos for this season. The TDE lyricist will also perform “i” at the NBA/TNT concert on Thursday, October 30.

“i” is also featured in the movie trailer for the upcoming film Top Five, which stars Chris Rock, Rosario Dawson, Kevin Hart, Cedric The Entertainer, and more.

Just recently, the Compton, California rapper received praise for “i” from fellow artist Tech N9ne. Tech revealed that the song would be “humongous” and would be featured in a variety of commercials.

“Why they say that ain’t Kendrick? That’s Kendrick, baby,” Tech N9ne said during an interview with Montreality last month. “And that’s the Isley Brothers too. You can’t go wrong…You know how good this gon’ sound live on stage with a live band? Y’all mothafuckas don’t understand that music. They don’t know that that’s [the] old Isley Brothers song, ‘Who’s That Lady’…If the [young] mothafuckas knew what it came from they would respect it. That’s Kendrick. That’s Kendrick. That’s my nigga all day…That’s dope. That’s gon’ be humongous. That can be—That music’s gonna be in commercials for Beats and everything.”

    1. disgusting if nba was smart they would get the king of rap drake. Every drake song sounds better than that trash song by kendrick.

    2. The label is really promoting the hell out of this garbage song. Seems like I’m hearing it every where now, movie trailers, TV shows, now this. I can tell this is going to be one of those songs people start to like because it’s constantly in rotation. I’m not impressed

    3. That’s pretty major but not surprising. It’s a highly accessible song and it’s pleasant on top of that. Good job, K.

    5. Amazing Song. When I listen to it, it was more than music, it was a story of a person just like me with dreams, fear, dangers, trouble, happiness, adolescence and maturity. He stayed true to his roots he kept it original but different. God bless Kendrick Lamar and hip hop.

    6. Good god, I havent heard a song like this in a GOOD minute. I will actually purchase this rather than download it. If hip hop artist pumped out more stuff like this, labels could move units like it was ’98.

    7. Wow. One thing I liked about the production of this song is that the beats are different from current hip hop albums and it sounded like all the producers were on the same page. It almosts seems as if the whole thing was produced by one person. That’s how smoothly the song flows. Great music Kendrick.

    8. the song is growing on me like crazy, I thought it was just decent but its slowly becoming one of my favorite songs of the last 5 years

      1. I think you’re just forcing yourself to like the song. How does a song go from just decent to one of your favorites of the past 5 years? You’re right about one thing though. It’s decent.

    9. This is just an average ass, butter soft song. It really shows how soft hip hop has become and how low the standards have got. Could you imagine spitters like Big, Jay, Pac or Nas putting out a song called “I Love Myself” at the peak of their career?? These guys would have been laughed out of the industry. That’s a fact. Plus, there has been waaaay better positive songs put out over the years that don’t get the attention they deserve. This joint is just overrated and fanboys are turning this into one of the best songs ever…LOL. Kendrick is nice, but I wish some of his hardcore fans were a little more realistic.

      1. You dumb ass bitch. This song is relevant to er one. Its a celebration for one’s self and how good you living. For K.DOT its a celebration of how he is growing as an artist and conforming to the rules of the game. He loves him himself and I am sure as dumb as you are, you love your self too.

      2. You Kendrick fans dickride way too much. I like a lot of his songs, but by his standards it’s an average song. A mediocre, simple hook with some decent verses. And do you guys even hear Kendrick’s voice on this song?? It’s f%$king awful. He sounds like a dwarf on helium. Dude is 27 but he sounds like he’s 13. None of you want to admit he made an average song. It happens to the best of them.

    10. This one of the top 5 wackest traxx I have ever heard he sounds like a mouse that took the biggest hit of helium ever right before he did this track. His voice is so dam annoying S M H

    11. everything about that song is dope, the beat, the lyrics, the voice (compliments the beat perfectly) I have to give credits where its due

    12. Is it just me or does this pic of Kendrick look like he just got off of a week long Heroin binge? I’m just saying…

    13. Really ? That track was utter rubbish though lol

Kendrick took two steps back, whilst Drake continues to run the game by himself

      1. So having the NBA play your song is going backwards? Good logic *sarcasm*

Also, Aubrey isn’t running anything. You Drake stans are too much.

    14. Kendrick is wack.

Don’t let the media fool you.

He is not a good rapper. He is rubbish.

The media is trying desprately to fill the void by aging artists like Nas.

But Kendrick is not Nas. He doesn’t have the talent in Nas’s pinky finger.

Kendrick Lamar is the worst hiphop artist of the generation.
