Kendrick Lamar Labeled ‘Overrated’ By Former Roc-A-Fella Rapper: ‘Drake Got More Hits’

Kendrick Lamar has been called “overrated” by former Roc-A-Fella rapper Oschino.

The State Property almunus criticized the Compton native during an appearance on the African Cultural Art Forum.

Speaking about Kendrick’s feud with Drake, Oschino said: “First of all, Drake got a whole country behind him. Drake got the most hits. Girls like Drake.

“Kendrick can rap too but I think he overrated, though. All of his songs are not hot to me. When Drake sings, I hate it. When Drake sings, I cut it off. I say, ‘Drake, don’t do this.’

“When Kendrick Lamar sings on some of his songs, he tries to go too deep, I’m like…,” he continued, pulling an unimpressed face.

“People like something they don’t understand a little bit. You need to be saying some crazy double entendres sometimes but Kendrick Lamar got a lot of songs I don’t like. Lyrics? He hot. But some of the songs, they ain’t for me.”

Despite being deemed by many as the winner in his beef with Drake, Kendrick Lamar has also been criticized by cultural critic Michael Eric Dyson — but for very different reasons.

Dyson took issue with the way that K. Dot made Drake’s racial identity a central part of the rap battle.

Speaking with Stephen A. Smith over the weekend, he said: ā€œChallenging his racial identity and saying he’s a culture vulture when he’s a Black man? ā€˜He’s from Canada, he ain’t real!’ Idris Elba is from the UK; people still love him on The Wire! So why is it that being from outside of our nationality raises suspicions about Drake.ā€

He continued: ā€œKendrick Lamar is a brilliant rapper and a formidable foe. But so is Drake. And what he’s done to expand the horizon of Hip Hop is underestimated, even artistically […] We have to stop this narrow, punishing, pernicious, limited viewpoint about Blackness.ā€

Kendrick Lamar took numerous shots at Drake’s ethnicity throughout their hotly-contested feud, including onĀ ā€œEuphoriaā€Ā where he rapped:Ā ā€œI even hate when you say the word ā€˜n-gga’ā€Ā andĀ ā€œwe don’t wanna hear you say ā€˜n-gga’ no more.ā€

He also called the Toronto native a ā€œcolonizerā€ for his collaborations with artists from Atlanta on his chart-topping diss song ā€œNot Like Us.ā€

Rick Ross has also taunted the 6 God about his ethnicity, frequently referring to him as “white boy” in various Instagram posts as well as on his diss track “Champagne Moments.”

    1. I like Kendrick. I love GKMC, it’s a classic. Pimp a Butterfly too. But I gotta say, he’s been gassed to the moon. Not saying he’s not dope but not quite as dope as people pretend he is. Drakes behavior with women is troubling sometimes, like using girls a weapons against dudes he doesn’t like. But as far as music quality, I think Drakes got way more hit records and was super hot for over a decade. I don’t like how all these guys he made money turned on him at the same time. Reminds me of the Jay Z line, ā€œonce you tagged lame the game is follow the leaderā€

      1. please bendrick lamer couldn’t pimp a bowl of corn flakes. has no classic albums whatsoever. Can’t remember a single line of his

      2. Yay! Gay Greg is on here w/ bruised knees!! How you doing, cutie? Why haven’t you dropped an album yet? Or a blog about OVHoes? Gay Greg claims he can’t remember single lines, but does lines of propane while listening to OVHoes. Gay Greg is so gay, that not even the gay community will accept you. Gay Greg gets pimped by corn flakes because he’s “grrrrreeeeeeeeeg!” Hey Greg, I heard you like beards. You better not get next to your mom and start acting weird.

      3. That’s the problem. You think just because someone has commercial success it solidifies them. It doesn’t. Drake has hit records. Maybe. But his albums are not quality. One or two maybe. Kendrick drops quality albums. His worst is sometimes considered his best work.

      4. This ^^^ people hated drake’s last 3 albums but it sold so therefore it’s good??? People hate Taylor swifts new album but it sold so it’s good? Just because you make a hit doesn’t mean it’s memorable. A mediocre song getting plays on the radio is still a mediocre song. 80 years from now, no one will be playing drake’s hits because most people will have forgotten they even existed.

    2. Btw, been saying this forever. Kendrick is a very talented rapper, but he sucks at making music. It’s strange since he idolizes Pac, yet he can barely put a coherent song together.

      1. But Pac never made coherent songs. All he did was rap his ass off and add doubles. Name a Pac song they bumped in the club except for the “same song”.

      1. He’s from State Property, Beanie Siegel’s Philly group. No, not that guy from State Prop, the other one…. no, not him either, the other other one.

    3. Booty hole drippin…must…find…Canadian plug to stop…flow…argh…

      1. HEY GREAT GREG HOPE YOU LIKE MY FAKE NAME COC SUCKER same shit from bendrick people. only know one way to go. lies and false info. that’s why he’s dead and he’s never performing again

      2. when is this next bendrick show bruh? when is he appearing on television bruh? in between taking a bro name and taking it the rear you are all the way fucked

    4. I’m just waiting to see this clown bendrick lamer in public again. we know his little booty bandit fans have everything to say online. lets see what they say when that concert gets sprayed down – you seen bendrick last performance before he turns pastor

    5. Can’t wait for our friends here to bring news of mr bendrick lamer’s next public appearance.

    6. Hear that? It’s the stampede of a million angry k-thots mashing their keyboards in the comment section

      1. Sounds like you’re more invested in that fanbase than your own life. Makes you look very gay šŸŒˆšŸ’…

    7. Hear that? It’s the stampede of a million angry k-thots mashing their keyboards in the comment section

      1. Sounds like you’re more invested in that fanbase than your own life. Makes you look very gay šŸŒˆšŸ’…

    8. At the end of the day, Kendrick was the chosen one to cut the head off the snake.. The modern day LL Cool J vs. Canibus beef where you have the underground MC vs the overrated pop artist who only has female fans that lipsync his music.

      1. LL is still around tho. Canibus is not in anyone’s conversation anymore really so…

      2. It’s all subjective at the end of the day…I personally thought 2nd Round KO was the better song, even back then when LL’s popularity was overshadowing Canibus’ talent. Some people are biased for whatever reason too, and if women like something popular or trendy, then more than likely the weak-minded men are gonna follow…which has the ability to make money for people who capitalize on the opportunities properly. Do I think Drake can rap? Hell yeah. Do I think he’s better than K Dot? Not for real…but who cares?

    9. When you look at the cover of the single, after a year I’d have to consider a lawsuit as well. If it’s all “just rap” there’s a clear slander case here and any lawyer can argue the motive was professional jealousy. I don’t believe you can publicly call another man a heinous criminal without proof. It’s too specific to ignore. But I highly doubt that would be the first move.

      1. They were both making claims without proof. You Drake fans just can’t face the evidence piling up that y’all some kiddie enthusiasts.

    10. Who this jar head ? Based solely on the songs that were made for the battle, Kendrick wins but barely Drake had some witty ahit in his but the whole AI one makes him lose.

    11. I’m starting to feel like their is some type hate coming from the East Coast for Kendrick. Kendrick is that guy right now, rather you like it or not. The issue with most people is they would rather pacify their personal feelings over telling the truth. I could see someone saying his music is not for me I get it. I feel and felt the same way about Em, he’s music is not for me, but I would never called Em overrated because I still recognize his talent and think he is one of the greatest ever. I think that King of New York thing really got the East still feeling a certain way about Kendrick.

    12. I understand where people are coming from when some of them say they don’t like some of Kendrick Lamar’s music. Some of his albums I didn’t like. But I will also say that I thought Mr. Morale and the Big Steppers was one of the best rap albums I have ever heard.

    13. šŸŽ¶ Aaalllll Myyyyy Liiiiiiffeee, šŸŽ¶ I never heard the name Oschinooooo, I don’t know what an Oschino is, yet it rapped or whatever it/he did…

    14. I wouldn’t say kendrick is overrated, but Drake damn sure isn’t overrated either….people have this idea that hip hop is a blood sport and that’s all it is, which is totally untrue. If you look back, check out Biz Markie, Fresh Prince & DJ Jazzy Jeff, Slick Rick, Fat Boys, Showbiz & AG, etc….even LL, only thing about LL is that he was a battle rapper plus a ladies man, back in the day, rappers could be whatever they wanted. Since the gangster/dope-man era, everybody thinks of hip hop being just a hardcore type music, which isn’t true.

    15. People can’t accept the fact that Kendrick is an ā€œartistā€ in its truest form. I liken him to Andre 3000. His style is very multi-dimensional, and not for everybody. People are just expecting K-Dot to rap and sound the way they want him to sound. Yes, He can easily make a song that sounds like Drake, but Drake can’t imitate K-Dot. His music is much more complex and thought provoking than your typical cookie cutter Drake bop.
Drake is absolutely a culture vulture of the African American hip hop culture and experience. I’ve never ever seen or really heard him speak on anything about Canada which is where he’s from. But he’s quick to speak on HoustonAtlantaVegas in all his music. No one finds that odd in the slightest bit? He was born and raised in Toronto but has to gain US validation to be relevant.
For those mad at K-dot for challenging Drake’s blackness, well Drake brought it on himself. That bar Drake uses about Kendrick always ā€œrapping like he tryna free the slavesā€ wasn’t a good look for Drizzy. It made him look real uneducated and out of touch when it comes to real black ppl issues, which is why Kendrick referred to him as a colonizer. Drake ain’t like us.

    16. who? roc-a-fella hasn’t been relevant in at least a decade, maybe more? and Drake has no country behind him…fuckin goof
