Kendrick Lamar may be the outright favorite to be crowned Hip Hopâs MVP of 2024 thanks to his rap battle victory over Drake, but thereâs another MC who K. Dot believes is worthy of the gold medal.
In a rare social media post on Thursday (October 17), the Compton native crowned Doechii the âhardestâ rapper in the game right now.

Alongside the artwork for the Top Dawg Entertainment signeeâs recent mixtape Alligator Bites Never Heal, Kendrick wrote on his Instagram Stories: âthe hardest out [alligator emoji].â
Unsurprisingly, Doechii was very appreciative of the lofty praise and replied via her own Instagram page: âThank you Dot. You the greatest.â

She later added: âGetting your flowers while you can still smell them >>>.â
The shoutout did not come out of the blue as Doechii stars in a new CashApp commercial that was made by Lamarâs creative company pgLang, proving he still has close ties to his former label.

Doechii just recently spoke about wanting to collaborate with Kendrick Lamar, although she admitted that she doesnât quite feel ready yet.
âI donât assume anything and I also donât feel entitled to a Kendrick feature but I would absolutely love that. Thatâs the goal,â she said on The Joe Budden Podcast. âIâm sure that, like, for my debut project, eventually Iâm gonna ask Top [Dawg] if he could ask Kendrick, or ask Kendrick myself and see what comes from that.

âBut Iâma be real, I donât think I have the record right now for that opportunity. I think I would have to come a certain way and I donât think Iâm ready for that.â
The co-hosts were impressed by her answer, with Budden himself saying: âI love that from you.â
Itâs been a banner year for Doechii, whose Alligator Bites Never Heal has also earned high praise from TDE labelmate ScHoolboy Q.
Following its release in August, the âTHat Partâ hitmaker wrote on X (formerly Twitter): âJust Here to say DOEcHii⊠dats all I care about at da moment.â

The acclaimed project has even been compared to Kendrickâs breakout 2011 mixtape Section.80 by the man who discovered and guided the Compton native to superstardom, TDE founder Anthony âTop Dawgâ Tiffith.
âI have the same feeling I had when KDOT dropped Section 80,â the record executive wrote on Instagram while promoting its release. âSheâs 1 of those ones 4sho !!!! #TDE20 #TimelessClassicMusic.â
