Kendrick Lamar and Drake‘s feud took another interesting turn thanks to rumors that Universal Music Group were working to put an end to it, but that claim has been debunked.
The widely-circulated theory surfaced on social media earlier this week but is flat-out false, according to TMZ.
Both Kendrick and Drake are signed to UMG through various subsidiaries and licensing agreements, and anonymous social media accounts were claiming that the world’s biggest music company was mediating a resolution between the two rap stars.
Sources have told the publication that Drake, Kendrick and UMG have had no meeting and that the entire scenario has been fabricated.
UMG have apparently had no involvement with the beef and according to TMZ’s sources, would not interfere with a dispute like this.
The conglomerate are also winners from the feud given the huge streaming numbers generated by the two artists in recent weeks.

According to the anonymous social media user, UMG wanted Kendrick Lamar to apologize to Drake for calling him a “pedophile” and that the feud was losing the record company — as well as other brands associated with Drake such as Nike — money.
Citing an unspecified “insider,” the person also claimed that UMG acknowledged Drake was “losing” the beef and pressured his fierce rival to issue a statement retracting his damaging allegation.
The 6 God addressed Kendrick’s claims on his most recent diss song “The Heart Part 6,” which came in response to the Compton rapper’s own tracks “Meet the Grahams” and “Not Like Us.”
“I never been with no one underage but now I understand why this the angle that you really mess with/ Just for clarity, I feel disgusted, I’m too respected/ If I was fucking young girls, I promise I’d have been arrested/ I’m way too famous for this shit you just suggested,” he rapped.
He also responded to the scrutiny over his relationship with Stranger Things star Millie Bobby Brown while namedropping Kendrick’s fiancée and baby mother Whitney Alford: “Only fuckin’ with Whitneys, not Millie Bobby Browns, I’d never look twice at no teenager.”
Why would the record company making money off of this try to stop it? That’s just fucking stupid.
Perhaps in the long term it will wreck one/both of the artists careers and future income form them for the label will dry up?
doubtful. Drake fans will still be Drake fans, Kendrick fans will still be Kendrick fans. Both disses have streamed millions of times so they’re making money hand over fist from this. Unless the pedo claims are true and the record company knows about it….
Yeah, thats what i mean, if any of these claims are proven or even generally believed to be true, then this could potentially destroy one/both of the artists careers and future sales.
Drake has a 360 deal. Streams are only part of the pie. If he gets ejected, the cost of that $400M deal is going to be much harder to recoup.
Fan fiction
So the record label wants Kendrick to concede and stop their cash cow… for what exactly? Make it make sense…
If this so-called “beef” continues for too long folks will eventually grow tired of it. “Familiarity breeds contempt.”
K. Dot will be the first to call truce. Haha
I think we need about six more rap artists to spark some beef, solely to challenge each other lyrically. But it must be top tier rappers who are skilled in the art. Strictly professional. It would be great for the culture. It’s much needed.
