Kelly Rowland is speaking out about the now-viral clip of her getting into it with a security guard on a red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival.

On Tuesday (May 21), footage emerged of the Destiny’s Child singer getting into a heated exchange with a member of the event staff. Talking to the Associated Press about the incident at another Cannes event the following day, Kelly explained her boundaries were crossed and she simply wouldn’t stand for it.

“The woman knows what happened. I know what happened,” she said. “I have a boundary and I stand by those boundaries and that is it. And there were other women that attended that carpet who did not quite look like me and they didn’t get scolded or pushed off or told to get off.

“And I stood my ground and she felt like she had to stand hers, but I stood my ground. And that was it.”

In the clip in question, Kelly Rowland can be seen smiling and posing for photos while on the red carpet at the premiere of the French-Italian comedy film Marcello Mio.

When an usher approaches her and motions for her to walk up the stairs, Rowland initially ignores her, prompting the usher to try again.

The 43-year-old eventually makes her way up the stairs and stops before reaching the top to turn around and wave at fans. A different usher then appears to accidentally stand on her dress, prompting Rowland to begin shouting and pointing at her aggressively.

While it’s unclear from the footage what was said, a professional lip reader deciphered the heated exchange and claimed that Rowland told the usher: “Don’t talk to me like that. Don’t talk to me like that. You’re not my mother. I told you not to talk to me like that.”

Earlier this year, Kelly headlines after it was claimed she abruptly exited The Today Show because her dressing room wasn’t up to par.

Rowland appeared on the NBC morning show in February as a guest to promote her movie Mea Culpa and was expected to return later in the episode as a guest host, but “dramatically walked off set.”

“Kelly and her team were not happy. They did not like the dressing room, so they decided to pull her off the show, leaving [Hoda Kotb] without a guest host for the 10 a.m. hour,” a source told Page Six.

Days later, Marlon Wayans took to Instagram to defend the singer from the backlash against her reported “diva moment,” urging critics to get their facts right.
