“I met Drake in L.A. one time, and that was it, really,” he said to the outlet. “At one point, one of his boys was like, ‘Your boy wants some beats. He’s gonna do a house album.’ And I was like, ‘Yeah, sure, hit me up.'”

He continued: “That’s my thing: anybody that wanna work with me, just hit me up. Maybe my reaction rubbed them the wrong way, but I was just saying, ‘Hey, if you’re serious, hit me up, let’s work, for real.'”

Though the interview does not make it explicit, Kaytranada did not end up contributing to Honestly, Nevermind.

His ultimate verdict on the album was that it was “cool” and “a good experience.”

Despite mixed reviews, the daring creative pivot still paid off for Drake on the commercial front as Honestly, Nevermind earned the OVO boss his eleventh No. 1 project atop the Billboard 200, and 13 of the 14 tracks hit the Hot 100.

The album remained on the Billboard 200 for a full year since its release.

“It took us about six, seven months to make maybe, and [it’s] something that I always wanted to do. I don’t really want to over-explain it; I just want to play it ’cause it’s a bunch of music that I love,” Drake said on SiriusXM’s Sound42 while debuting the project in June 2022.

Over the summer, the 6 God penned a heartfelt letter to his Instagram Story surrounding the dance-leaning 2022 album’s anniversary earlier this week.

“I let my humbleness turn to numbness at times letting time go by knowing I got the endurance to catch it another time,” he wrote. “I work with every breath in my body ’cause it’s the work not air that makes me feel alive. That’s some real detrimental shit, but that’s that shit my perfectionist mind doesn’t really mind because no one knows what’s on my mind when I go to sleep at nine and wake up at five – unless I say it in a rhyme.”

Drake continued: “My urge for revenge wins the game against my good guy inside every single fckn time… I’ll take loyalty over an oh my & emoji fire. I know if it was a dark knight where all the odds were against my side & my skill went to whoever took my life they’d done me off with a big smile and maybe evn post it for some likes.”
